As one of the core subjects to be taught at school, could math be taught effectively outside of a normal classroom setting? How do teachers retain the math culture when they have no choice other than to adopt technology into learning?

In this session, we will be joined by our Green Educators, Jonathon Levin and Synta Canydia, to talk about how we integrate math in a sustainable way at Green School Bali, especially in Middle and High School level, and discuss what are the challenges that our teachers have been facing to ensure a successful design and implementation of online mathematics learning.

We will also share some different teaching styles and approaches, practical tips, useful tools and resources. This will be a discussion session and everyone is welcome!

Andy is a bearded Grade 4 teacher at Green School Bali who loves turning trash into treasure. He is passionate about teaching kids to be self-sufficient, creative and busy and to make their ideas come to life. Andy has a background in teaching and gardening stretching back a while. He has owned his own gardening business, worked on tiny Australian islands and been involved in recovery efforts following natural disasters. After nearly 20 years of teaching primary students, Andy has some great tips to pass on to educators about some fun projects you can do with kids. As a life-time gardener and tinkerer, he has some easy projects for people stuck in their homes, and looking for something sustainable to do. Rodent infestation, attacks from larger species, and destructive human activities nearly wiped out the baby tortoise population, leading to a 100-year absence from the wild.

BELOW IS AN UPDATE FROM SHINTA EMMANUELLA IN KALIMANTAN ABOUT DONATIONS AND USE OF THE MONEY...

FYI, we are collecting masks at GS to send to Sumarni (former GS intern) who is in action with firefighters.

Shinta, is a Dayak activist from Kalimantan. SHe is a friend of GS as well (below is her update on donation) and like Sumarni, very active on site.

2 possibilities for you to support: continue to donate masks (in a box at GS entrance @ Warung area) or send money to Ranu Welum Foundation.

Thank you!

-------------------------------

Hello, this is Emmanuela Shinta, the director of Ranu Welum Foundation.

Per today we have received donation to Ranu Welum bank account specifically for Relief effort, with total amount 11 millions IDR. Here is the detail how the fund being used.

4 million IDR went for Firefighting equipment (shoes, gloves, glasses)
1 million went for firefighters team's logistic
4 millions went for purchasing N95 masks and oxy can as we are running out of masks
2 million went for haze shelter logistic (24 hours electricity, supplies, vitamin, milk, food, respiratory tool, etc)

In the last one month, there are 350+ people come to our haze shelter to get supplies and also clean air. Even today, there are more than 50 people evacuate themselves to the shelters. There are 150 children from 9 months to 13 years old and also elders in their late 60.

During the past 3 months we have distributed more than 10,000 masks and 100 oxycan to people in Kalimantan, mostly those who are living in the villages worst affected by haze.

We also have 16 people as the volunteers of Youth Firefighters Squad who go to fight the fires 4 times a week.

Thank you so much for all support. Mostly donation come from outside Kalimantan, so I would like to thank everyone who understand that this is our battle together and trust our community as the frontline warriors, while getting our back. We cannot do this without you.

There's so much to be done. We still open direct donation to our bank account via transfer or PayPal here.

The fund will go directly to support our relief effort, and you can check the report on our official social media. We will also very appreciate if you can send us masks and oxy cans as we don't have the supplies in Palangkaraya and the flights to PKY are cancelled in the last few days.

Most important, PLEASE SHARE THIS ISSUE to your network.

We try hard to stay safe and not losing hope.

Dayak is Power.

Sincerely,
Emmanuela and team
