Here is the general timeline for scholarships you need to know about as a high school or university student.
Including: full-ride scholarship application timelines, pooled scholarships (that most students miss!), internal and external ones, and early university admission deadlines 👩🏻🎓💸
Before grade 11, you should be building your scholarship resume.
Get involved.
Get high grades (like it or not, funding are given to those with a track record of succeeding).
Identify gaps in your existing scholarship résumé.
During the summer between grade 11 and grade 12, you should be gathering (1) a short list of scholarships you want to apply for, and (2) all your application materials.
Common application materials include:
1. Transcript (your most up-to-date)
2. Letters of recommendation (I would have a roster of around 3)
3. Your résumé
4. A cover letter or personal statement (this should change for every scholarship application, but a master doc is a great way to start)
5. Statement of financial need
As well, many scholarships require you to write a short essay, you would know the topic once you start applying.
Remember to keep track of the deadlines.
Remember to keep track of the deadlines.
Many scholarships are only for grade 12 students going into university (not for existing university students), so make sure to apply as many as you can before entering Uni.
