A lesson that I learned that has shaped the way I run my business was how to properly manage my cash flow as a self employed person. Let me explain…
In order to best manage my cash flow during slower months, I changed my invoice payment schedule to 3 payments, instead of the usual retainer/final payment structure.
33% due at the time of contract signing, 33% due 6 months before the wedding (this will usually land during the slower months) and the remaining 34% 1 month before the wedding. It balances out my income to be more consistent and help my budget. Also helps your clients make smaller payments over time instead of a large lump sum due right before the wedding!
