Yesterday our Yorkton Business Diploma students had the opportunity to attend the annual Yorkton Chamber's Business Dinner to hear the inspirational story of small-town Saskatchewan, Jess Tetu. Jess's story was so fitting for our Business students who also have big entrepreneurial dreams.

Yesterday marked the official launch of the Medical Laboratory Assistant program at Suncrest College in Yorkton! Only 11 months after we announced the addition of this brand-new program we have a cohort of six learners and a newly renovated and fully stocked medical training lab.
A generous donation from The Health Foundation Yorkton, Saskatchewan was integral to the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment which has allowed Suncrest College to offer this program. The MLA program is a practical, hands-on training opportunity featuring almost daily lab time in addition to several months of practicum placements. Suncrest College is proud to offer this training in a lab with new incubators, an autoclave, lab grade coolers and freezers, centrifuges and other medical grade equipment and supplies. The addition of the Thinprep 5000, made by Hologic, which is a multi-function processor for gynecological, general cytology and UroCyte™ samples allows Suncrest College to offer the best learning experience for our local learners.

This week we welcomed our first group of international students. Representing a total of 10 countries from around the world, these students will add to the diversity and cultural vibrancy at Suncrest College. All students attended a two-day orientation session to help them prepare for life as a post-secondary student at Suncrest College. Thank you to Mayor Mitch Hippsley, the Yorkton Chamber, and the East Central Newcomer Welcome Centre Inc. for speaking to and welcoming our students!

Today we had the opportunity to officially launch our Provincial Firefighting Training Program. The rain did not dampen the excitement of our students, partners, and staff who all gathered to celebrate the return of our firefighting training programs!
