Three northern Engineers-in-Training attended the Engineers Canada | Ingénieurs Canada Annual Meeting and the Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science, Trades and Technology (CCWESTT) & Engineers Canada Conference in Calgary in May, with sponsorship from NAPEG.

At NAPEG's 2026 Annual General Meeting, members officially welcomed Kamran Ata, P.Eng., as President.

This year’s Engineers Canada | Ingénieurs Canada conversations took place as part of a broader collaboration between Engineers Canada, Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science, Trades and Technology and APEGA — bringing together regulators, professionals, partners, and emerging leaders from across the country to Calgary for important discussions on the future of the engineering profession.

Sessions explored topics including pay equity, Indigenous consultation and engagement, and what comes next for the 30 by 30 initiative. Participants also heard from keynote speaker Vanessa Raponi P.Eng, PMP, founder of EngiQueers Canada, who spoke about barriers within the profession and how to create more inclusive pathways in engineering.

Among those attending on behalf of NAPEG were 30 by 30 Champion Charlotte Brockman, P.Eng., Executive Director Vince McCormick, along with Jada Hawkins, EIT, Jenna Orr, EIT, and Francisca Puebla Careaga, EIT. NAPEG was pleased to support the attendance of these emerging professionals from the North, not only for the 30 by 30 programming, but also for the Engineers Canada 2026 Spring Meeting and Annual Meeting of Members — creating opportunities to connect with leaders from across Canada and take part in knowledge exchange with peers from across the profession.

The week’s activities also marked the beginning of former NAPEG President J Paul Guy, P.Eng, FEC's term on the Engineers Canada Board, helping ensure Northern perspectives continue to be represented at the national level.

We appreciated the opportunity to contribute to these national conversations and look forward to carrying these ideas and connections forward in our ongoing work.

On May 13, Christal Kelly received the 2026 Science Teaching Award from the NAPEG Education Foundation in recognition of her outstanding and innovative approach to science education.

Christal, a teacher at École St. Patrick High School, recently joined CBC North’s The Trailbreaker alongside a few of her students for a thoughtful and engaging conversation on curiosity, hands-on learning, and inspiring the next generation in the classroom.

Media Release – Celebrating Excellence in Engineering, Geoscience, and Science Education

On May 13, the 2026 NAPEG Education Foundation Awards brought together professionals from across the NWT and Nunavut to recognize outstanding achievements in engineering and geoscience, including professional service, environmental excellence, community service, science education, and professional merit.

This year’s recipients included the Trout River Bridge Project Team, the Tuktoyaktuk Erosion Mitigation Project partners, the Coral Harbour Remediation Project Team, science educator Christal Kelly, and dedicated northern professionals and volunteers making a lasting impact across the North.
