🏆 What does it take to become the World Champion of Public Speaking?
Meet Dirceu da Silva, the 2026 Toastmasters World Champion of Public Speaking! 🌎🎤
His winning speech is a great reminder that powerful speaking isn't about being perfect. It's about having something meaningful to say, learning how to connect with people, and having the confidence to step up and say it.
You don't have to be a World Champion to benefit from Toastmasters. 😉
Maybe you want to stop second guessing yourself in meetings. Maybe you'd like to get better at thinking on your feet, telling a story, or simply feeling more comfortable speaking up.
That's what we practice at Yarmouth Toastmasters. One conversation, one speech, one little confidence boost at a time.
Curious what Toastmasters could do for you? Come check us out. You might surprise yourself. 💬✨

We tend to think confidence is about the BIG moments.
Giving a presentation, speaking in front of a crowd, or taking the lead.
But what about the little moments?
💬 Speaking up when you have an idea.
🤝 Introducing yourself to someone new.
🗣️ Finding the words when you’re put on the spot (without suddenly forgetting how sentences work). 😉
💡 Getting your point across without talking in circles because you’re nervous.
We’ve all been there. Those moments happen every day, but we like to think of them as opportunities to practice.
At Yarmouth Toastmasters, we believe confidence is cultivated a little a time. You don’t have to be a great speaker to start, you just have to start.
Come give it a try at our next meeting:
🗓️ Thursday, August 27th
📍 Yarmouth Library.
⏰ Doors open at 5pm, meeting starts at 5:15pm.
No pressure, perfection is not required, we’re just a group of individuals working to cultivate our confidence one meeting at a time.

You know that thing you wish you'd said but only think of 10 minutes after the conversation? 😅
Trust me, we've all been there!
Toastmasters isn't about becoming the person who always has the perfect words. It's about getting better at thinking on your feet, expressing yourself clearly, listening, responding, and having the confidence to speak up.
It's amazing how quickly those skills start showing up everywhere outside the meeting room.
If you've ever been curious about Toastmasters, come check us out this Thursday! No pressure, just people helping people get a little more comfortable being heard.
🗓️ Thursday, August 13, 2026
📍 Yarmouth Library

🗣️You probably practice speaking more than you think.
You explain things at work, tell stories to your friends, and convince your kids to do something they absolutely do not want to do. You might even give your opinion when nobody asked for it. 😂
So, you are already doing it. Toastmasters just gives you a place to get better at it.
You don't have to walk in knowing exactly what you're doing. You don't need a polished speech or a perfectly confident voice. Just show up, take a turn, and practice in a room full of people cheering you on.
🗓️Join us next Thursday, August 13th
📍Yarmouth Library – Program Room
⏱️Doors open at 5pm
🎤Meeting starts at 5:15pm
Come see what we’re all about. You might surprise yourself!

📚✨THE FINAL CHAPTER OF OUR GRAMMARIAN SERIES! ✨📚
For the final installment of our 10-part series, we are ending with two words that sound almost identical but have completely different meanings:
🗣️ ELICIT vs. ILLICIT
ELICIT means to draw out a response, reaction, or information.
👉 A great question can elicit an interesting conversation.
ILLICIT means illegal or forbidden.
👉 The investigation uncovered an illicit operation.
💡Quick Tip: These words sound very similar, so context matters. Are you drawing something out, or is something forbidden?
That’s a wrap! 🎉
Over the past four months, we’ve explored 20 commonly confused words, from compliment and complement to elicit and illicit.
Words matter, the way we use them and being understood when we speak.
That is one of the reasons Toastmasters is such a valuable place to practice. You can learn to choose your words, organize your thoughts, speak with confidence, and connect with an audience.
Ready to put your words to work? 🎤
Join us next week, Thursday, July 30th, at Yarmouth Toastmasters!
⏱️Doors open at 5pm

📚 Grammarian Series: Part 9 of 10
No meeting this week. We will be back July 16th.
One of the Grammarian's jobs is to help speakers become more precise. In this series, we're exploring words that are often confused and showing how a small difference can change the meaning of a message.
✨ Accept vs. Except
Accept 👉 To receive, agree to, or approve of something
~She accepted the job offer.
~Please accept my sincere apology.
Except 👉 Excluding or leaving something out
~Everyone was invited except Ben.
~The restaurant is open every day except Monday.
Quick tip: Accept means to receive or agree. Except means to leave out.
Our next meeting is July 16th, and guests are always welcome. Join us and discover how the Grammarian, along with the other meeting roles, can help you become a more confident communicator.
