🎹 Some say playing piano By Ear can't be learned. And honestly, it's easy to see why people believe that.
Most piano teachers can't teach it. And that's because they can't do it themselves.
The few who actually can play By Ear naturally have no idea how they do it. So they have no idea how to pass it on either.
Now, some students do well reading sheet music and that's great. But there are those who just don't take to it, and here's the thing: that's not a reflection of their ability. It's not because they can't learn. It's simply because reading music is not their method.
If a student has a genuine desire to play but keeps hitting a wall with sheet music, that's a sign. It means they likely learn differently. And for those students, playing By Ear is not just an alternative. It's the answer.
When they learn the right way for them, the discouragement goes away. The confidence comes back. And suddenly they're playing songs they actually love, because they can hear it and just play it.
