Founded in 1838, Acadia University is one of the oldest and most respected liberal arts universities in Canada. Located just a one-hour drive from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Acadia is an integral part of the quintessential college town of Wolfville, overlooking the Annapolis Valley and the Bay of Fundy. Meet Nik Cutcliffe Kymlicka (’26)—our FIRST Certificate in Democratic Leadership graduate as of this spring 👏🎓

Supported by the Jarislowsky Foundation, this newest five-course undergraduate certificate at Acadia combines a strong foundation in political theory with opportunities to apply that learning in practical contexts.

From a meeting with the Deputy Clerk of the House of Commons to an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Centre Block rehabilitation project on Parliament Hill, for Nik, the most impactful learning took place outside the classroom.

“I got to see the finalized plans of Parliament, along with how it is progressing, and some of the history of the building. The Deputy Clerk taught us about his role in Parliament and the process of passing laws in Canada.” - Nik Cutcliffe Kymlicka (’26)

Whether pursuing this certificate alongside an undergrad degree or as a stand-alone credential, this certificate is available on campus and online now and will be offered in a fully asynchronous format beginning in 2027 (the only certificate of its kind among Canada’s five Jarislowsky Chair institutions).

How special it is to see our community come together in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day🧡

Yesterday and over the weekend we saw creativity and conversations spark across campus - something we see all year-round but are especially looking forward to over the next few weeks as we move into Mi'kmaq History Month.

This fall, Acadia's School of Nursing officially launches as an independently administered program, marking an exciting new chapter for nursing education in Nova Scotia.

“This program is essential to the health and well-being of our region, not only in educating outstanding nurses, but in helping to build the connections and opportunities that will encourage highly skilled healthcare professionals to stay and build their careers here.” - Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo, Provost & Vice-President Academic

Not only will the program continue to help address the growing need for nurses across the region, but the new curriculum being developed in partnership with L'nu Nursing will also help ensure we're creating leaders in nursing ethics, cultural safety, and community wellness

The Active for Life (AFL) program is a community-based exercise program delivered by our Centre of Lifestyle Studies tailored to the needs of older adults across the Annapolis Valley.

Acadia University and the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation Scholarship. Congratulations to Lily Miles, Sarah Murimboh, and Colette Peng!

This scholarship is among the most prestigious in Canada, awarded to students who demonstrate a strong history of community involvement and passion for the environment, with an incoming Grade Point Average over 90 percent. Now in its thirteenth year, the scholarship integrates recipients into a mentorship network of current scholars and alumni. Scholars often describe the opportunity as life-changing; providing a platform to gain the confidence to begin research early on in the academic careers.
