Acadia’s Sam Reid has been selected to represent Canada at the 2026 FISU World Championship Rugby Sevens in Stellenbosch, South Africa from Sept. 4-6.

For Reid, the opportunity is the realization of a long-time goal - and a chance to represent both her country and Acadia.

Malko Young’s first season at Acadia gave him plenty to remember. The Business Administration student appeared in 19 conference games for the Axemen, recording 129 points, 62 rebounds and 34 assists on his way to AUS All-Rookie Team honours. But the season ultimately became about something bigger. Young helped the Axemen capture the 2026 AUS championship, turning advice from a former Acadia player about appreciating the moment into a lesson he now carries with him as he looks ahead to the rest of his university career.

A veteran presence is joining the Axewomen.

Lauren Neeve comes to Acadia after four seasons with STFX, bringing 72 games of AUS experience, 53 career starts and a strong defensive presence on and off the ball. A former team captain, Lauren adds leadership, corner shooting, transition play and experience to the Axewomen roster while pursuing a master of arts in sociology.

The Axemen hockey team have added forward Matteo Disipio to their roster for the 2026-27 season.

The Ottawa product joins the program after two seasons at Mercyhurst University in the NCAA, bringing both collegiate experience and a strong junior résumé that includes standout offensive production in the NAHL and CCHL.

Disipio will pursue a business administration degree at Acadia, majoring in accounting.

The Axewomen are adding size, upside and a commitment to growth in the middle.

Saoirse Britton joins Acadia from Calgary after competing with St. Mary’s High School and Canada West Volleyball Club.

Her next step comes in Wolfville with the Axewomen volleyball program.

We’re excited to welcome Angie Hurley to our athletic therapy team, joining Head Athletic Therapist Curtis Arsenault in supporting our Axemen and Axewomen student-athletes.
Originally from Baie Verte, Newfoundland and Labrador, Hurley brings an impressive background in athletic therapy and high-performance sport. A Certified Athletic Therapist, she has worked with athletes at the university, provincial, national and professional levels across Canada.
After earning degrees from Memorial University and Camosun College, Hurley gained experience with Carleton University football, the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL), the Newfoundland Growlers, and numerous national and provincial sport organizations, including Field Hockey Canada, Rowing Canada, Ringette Canada, BC Hockey, BC Soccer, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, and Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer.
Most recently, Hurley served as Manager of Medical Services for the 2025 Canada Games, overseeing medical operations for more than 4,200 athletes competing across 19 sports at 22 venues.
Now calling Wolfville home, Angie is excited to work alongside Curtis in providing exceptional care for our student-athletes while helping them perform at their best throughout the season.

An Acadia connection in our next women's volleyball commitment for 2026-27.

Meghan Potvin joins the Axewomen from Ottawa’s Maverick Volleyball Club, where she was coached by Acadia alumna Sydney Zakutney.

A trained outside hitter moving into the libero role, Meghan brings strong serve receive, defensive instincts and Team Ontario White experience to Acadia’s back row.

Since joining Acadia in 2023, Craig Slaunwhite has played an important role in the high-performance environment supporting each of our varsity programs.

As Sport Performance Manager, Craig worked closely with Axemen and Axewomen student-athletes and coaches, helping advance athlete health, development and performance across Acadia Athletics.

We thank Craig for his commitment and contributions over the past three years and congratulate him on being named Director, Health and Performance Integration with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
