From building a structure to creating a place of belonging.

There is something special about the moment when a building begins to look like a place.

The walls are rising, the roof is taking shape, and our new vestibule is beginning to frame the entrance. What was once a vision on paper is becoming a space we can actually begin to imagine ourselves in. And that is when the excitement really begins.

We can start imagining students walking through those doors, friends gathering together, families visiting, and our Landmark East School community coming together in a space designed for connection, opportunity, and belonging.

The building is taking shape and so is the future we are building together.

Stay tuned as we continue to share the journey!

A disc. A few friends. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Boarding life is about so much more than where our students sleep. It's about creating opportunities to connect, encourage one another, and make memories that last long after the school day ends.

From cheering on a great throw to laughing over the ones that don't quite make it, every shared experience helps create belonging and strengthen the friendships that make Landmark East School feel like home.

It's amazing how quickly a construction site can begin to tell a story.

Just a few weeks ago, we were looking at trenches and foundations. Today, walls are reaching toward the sky, giving shape to a dream our community has shared for years.

Buildings are made of concrete, steel, and wood. But schools are built with something even stronger: hope, opportunity, belonging, and the belief that every student deserves a place where they can thrive.

Every new wall reminds us that we are not simply constructing a building. Together, we are building the future for generations of Landmark East School students.

Thank you for following along as this exciting journey continues.

Part three in the Elementary Successful Me Program artist exploration focused on Piet Mondrian!

Through our Successful Me Program earlier this past spring, our students learn more about themselves as learners by exploring their strengths, identifying strategies that support their success, and reflecting on what helps them thrive. Through creative experiences, students develop self-awareness, confidence, and the skills needed to navigate challenges.

Inspired by Piet Mondrian, students explored patterns, balance, and organization as they created their own works of art. As they carefully planned and constructed their pieces, students practiced focus, attention to detail, and perseverance—discovering that structure and creativity can work together in powerful ways.

We know that when students come to understand themselves, they move forward with confidence, independence, and a deep belief in their ability to succeed.

Building Update: Strong Foundations

Construction progress continues on campus, with more visible changes taking shape. While it is exciting to see the physical transformation, these moments are also a reminder that every great project begins with a strong foundation.

At Landmark East School, foundations matter. Just as this building is being carefully constructed to support future generations of students, we work every day to help students build the skills, confidence, and resilience that will support them long after graduation.

We look forward to sharing more progress as this vision continues to come to life.

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when students are invited to slow down and simply watch.

Our elementary students had the opportunity to care for 20 Painted Lady caterpillars, observing each remarkable stage of their life cycle. Day by day, they watched tiny caterpillars grow, transform into chrysalises, and eventually emerge as beautiful butterflies.

There were moments of anticipation, plenty of questions, and more than a few excited trips to check on their tiny guests. Then came the day everyone had been waiting for. Together, the students carried the butterflies to the pollinator garden and watched as each one took its first flight into the world.

It was a beautiful reminder that learning isn't always found in textbooks. Sometimes it unfolds one small change at a time, teaching patience, curiosity, and an appreciation for the incredible wonders of nature. We're grateful for experiences like these that spark a sense of wonder, and remind us all to pause and notice the extraordinary things happening all around us.

Sometimes the best classroom has wings.

On Tuesday, June 30th, we celebrated Janet Cooper’s retirement. After spending over four decades caring for others at Landmark East School, it feels wonderfully fitting that Janet will now spend more time making memories with the grandchildren who have so completely captured her heart.

Janet has left an extraordinary legacy at Landmark East School. The impact she has had on this school lives not only in the work she has done, but in the relationships she built and the countless lives she touched.

Thank you for your dedication, your compassion, your laughter, and for all of the ways, both big and small, that you have made Landmark East School a better place. Janet will be deeply missed, but even more importantly, she will be fondly remembered.
Congratulations, Janet.

We wish you every happiness in this next chapter.

Welcome to the future home of the Landmark East School's Athletic Centre.

In this video, Erna Fraser, Chair of Landmark East Association and Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign shares the vision behind this exciting capital project and provide an update on construction progress as we work toward our planned opening in Fall 2026.

Erna, fellow Co-Chair Greg Coldwell, and Judy Rafuse, our Capital Campaign Coordinator, have helped lead this campaign with unwavering commitment, never losing sight of what this new space will mean for generations of Landmark East School students.

What began as a vision to enhance the educational experience of Landmark East students and create new opportunities for the broader Annapolis Valley community is now becoming a reality.

The Landmark East School's Athletic Centre will provide a modern, multi-purpose facility designed to support athletics, wellness, recreation, school events, ceremonies, and community engagement. Featuring a regulation-size gymnasium with flexible configurations for basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, and a variety of recreational activities, the Centre will serve both Landmark East School and the surrounding community for years to come.

The Landmark East Athletic Centre is being built first and foremost for our students while also creating a valuable new resource for organizations and communities throughout the Annapolis Valley.

We invite you to follow our journey as we share construction updates, project milestones, and the exciting progress leading to the opening of the Landmark East Athletic Centre.
