“🌲 The Forests We Rely On: Exploring the World of Forestry 🌿
Did you know forests cover 30.8% of the Earth’s surface, and grasslands make up 50%? 🌍 These plant communities shape our world in ways we often overlook, providing timber, medicine, recreation, habitat for wildlife, and much more. With Envirothon, students dive into the world of forests and grasslands, learning about plant biology, forest management, species identification, and the vital ecosystems they support. 🌳🌾
What Will Students Learn?
🌱 Plant Biology: Explore the anatomy, life cycles, and adaptations of plants, including trees and grasses, and understand their role in the ecosystem.
🌲 Forest & Grassland Ecology: Understand the structure of forest ecosystems, energy flow, and ecological niches, as well as how these systems benefit water quality and biodiversity.
🌍 Forest and Grassland Management: Learn about sustainable forestry practices, forest regeneration, and grassland conservation to ensure these vital ecosystems remain healthy and productive.
🦉 Plant Communities & Wildlife: Dive into plant succession, fire’s role in ecosystems, and how plant communities provide essential habitat for wildlife species.
🔧 Field Skills: Gain hands-on experience using tools like the Biltmore stick, clinometer, and GPS to assess forests and make management recommendations.
Get Involved and Make a Difference:
Envirothon students are learning how to protect the biodiversity of forests and grasslands for future generations. From identifying local plant species to exploring global ecological challenges, these future environmental leaders are prepared to shape the future of forestry and conservation. 🌲🌍
