September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation here in Canada. This is a reminder to remember the children who never returned home, honour Survivors of residential schools, and reflect on the ongoing work of truth, reconciliation, and right relationship.

At the MacRae Centre, we also want to use this day to point toward Indigenous-led organizations whose work can deepen how we listen, learn, and imagine the future.

The Indigenous Futures Research Centre (IFRC) at Concordia University is an Indigenous-led space bringing people together around future-oriented research needs and dreams articulated by Indigenous Peoples. Its work includes Indigenous approaches to technology and artificial intelligence, arts and cultural expression, and the flourishing of future generations.

For those interested particularly in the intersections of Christian faith, theology, and Indigenous perspectives, we also encourage learning from NAIITS: An Indigenous Learning Community. NAIITS develops and teaches theology and biblical studies from Indigenous perspectives, creating space for Indigenous worldviews, identities, and ways of knowing within theological education.

Reconciliation calls for more than recognition of the past. It asks us to listen carefully to Indigenous voices in the present and to consider the relationships, practices, and futures we are helping to shape.

Your church has influencers. You just didn’t hire them.

The Centre for Christian Faith and Culture is named for the late Rev. Dr. Andrew D. MacRae in honour of his valuable leadership as the 4th Principal of Acadia Divinity College and recognition of his lifelong commitment to evangelism and mission.

Dr. MacRae’s greatest desire was for people to know Christ; he was an evangelist and theological educator who spoke and preached locally and around the world. He was called to Acadia to establish the first chair in evangelism and mission in Canada, which he achieved in 1983. He then served as Principal (President) and Dean of Theology from 1985 to 1998. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Acadia University, in recognition of his wide service and contribution to the college. Dr. MacRae served the church and college faithfully, a valued mentor to many leaders until the time of his death in 2016. His legacy of helping churches and Christian leaders learn to engage the world continues through the MacRae Centre for Christian Faith and Culture.
