The Forum Art Centre (Institute) was founded almost 60 years ago by artists Nik Bjelajac and Steve Repa who sought to offer art instruction to all. Today, our centre is an creative hub that continues in the tradition of accessible instruction and art appreciation. As a not-for-profit organization, we provide this service to the community through seasonal 10-week art classes, art workshops, art sho

ws and events. Our instructors excel in developing the full artistic potential of each student. Students’ innovative and experimental work is encouraged, nurtured, and promoted with enthusiasm by the instructors and other students for creating art for its own sake. We welcome students from the age of seven years old and onwards, from all backgrounds and all cultures to create new forms and ideas that express the personality of each individual and stimulate the imagination of all. The Forum Art Centre Team & Board members are committed to creating an inviting, positive environment where you will find your artistic home.

NEW INSTRUCTOR: Kami Goertz is a self-educated fibre-based soft sculpture artist who has been exploring form and variety in nature through vintage, reclaimed and quality textiles and mixed materials for over 15 years. Her character-based work has been exhibited across Canada, the United States and in Germany, and resides in many personal collections across the globe. The goal of Kami’s art is to inspire a remembrance of youngness, play, curiosity, and discovery while highlighting the living characters in our common environment.

Do you know a creative teen with a love of plushies? “Design and Sew Plush Characters!” with Kami Goertz is just for them. Kami will teach students the skills required to start making their own one-of-a-kind “soft action figures”.

Start with building a number of pre-designed projects to gain an understanding of sewing techniques, how to install safety eyes, design process and decoration. Then design a unique character and build it using the techniques learned. Take home a small huggable plush of your own design!

Note: This class will require manual dexterity and an enthusiasm to learn, but no previous sewing experience is needed. All materials will be provided.

Course Details:
