What Parents Should Know….
>An Early Childhood Educator has the appropriate post secondary diploma for Early Childhood Education and is knowledgeable of holistic children’s development
>Home Childcare does not require an ECE diploma, licensed Childcare Centres do
>Unlicensed / Private childcare is not under the government’s jurisdiction, therefore are not funded and can not accept subsidy
>Unlicensed / Private Home childcare providers can supervise a maximum of 4 children under 12 years old including their own
>Licensed Home Childcare providers can supervise a maximum of 5 children under 6 years old and 8 total including their own
>Average classroom sizes in Centres; 8 Infants (under 18 months), 12 Toddlers (18-30 months), 32 Preschoolers(2-4 years), 24 PreK/Kinders (4 and 5 years), 15 School Age (6-12 years)
>Funded childcare offers $10/day and subsidy
>Subsidy is applied for through the government and determined based on need and income
