The Prime Minister just announced that:

Students can apply for the newly created CESB (Canada Emergency Student Benefit) and will receive $1,250 per month over the next four months (May to August) to help with missing income. If you care for someone in your home, or you have a disability, this amount will increase to $1,750 monthly. **(These are students that do not qualify for the CERB.) You are entitled to work, but must be making less than $1,000 per month. This is for current students, those returning this fall, or even those who recently graduated.

Canada will be creating 76,000 jobs to help students, in sectors that need help right now. Targeted help for Indigenous students too.

More money will be put into current research based jobs for students.

There will be grants for community volunteering. For example: approx $1,000 to $5,000 in grants for those helping with COVID-19 this summer.

Study grants for 2020/21 will be doubled for students. (Over $75M specifically for Indigenous Students in Canada.)

To be eligible for the regular CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit), students must have made $5,000 in salary over the past 12 months.

Miigwetch and stay safe! Thinking of all our relations during these difficult times ❤️

!!For anyone who is interested!!

Hello,
my name is Kathleen Vitt and I’m a Métis Master in Social Work student at the U of M completing my thesis research project – which is a relationship building project between Indigenous and newcomer youth (ages 16-24). This project is aiming to increase the amount of good/community-driven information that each broad community receives about the other, through the creation of a video. This video is centered on Indigenous and newcomer youth identities and relationship building, and will be shared with Indigenous and newcomer serving agencies in Winnipeg after it’s completed to be used as a potential educational resource.
As it’s done to most things, COVID-19 has changed this project fairly drastically, and instead of being an in-person relationship building experience, the video-making process is being shifted online. I’m now engaging in approximately a 15-20 minute individual video zoom call with participants, where I’m asking 5 questions centered around identities and relationship building. As zoom automatically video records, some of those responses will then be used for inclusion in the video. For participating in the zoom call, there’s a 25$ honorarium. If anyone is interested, please reach out via email, text or call at: [email protected], or 204-430-3617 and I can provide more information.

Thank you!
