Skating is the foundation of the game. Speed, balance, edge control, quick starts, acceleration, and agility all play a major role in how players create space, win races, escape pressure, and make plays under game pressure.

This summer, Vigier Hockey is offering the Skating/Explosiveness Camp for players looking to take their on-ice game to the next level.

The camp focuses on developing powerful, dynamic, and agile skaters through high-repetition drills, corrective instruction, and game-like situations. Players will work on improving overall speed and acceleration both with and without the puck, while learning how to apply those skating skills in real hockey situations.

Camp Focus Areas Include:
Forward and backward skating
Transition speed and power
Edge work
Balance and agility
Quick starts
Stride length and recovery speed
Evasion and deception
In-game tactics

With a small-group setting and strong coach-to-player ratio, players will receive the feedback, correction, and repetition needed to build better habits and improve their skating confidence.

Vigier Hockey Skating/Explosiveness Camp

Every hockey player will face adversity at some point in their journey. Whether it’s reduced ice time, a tough game, making mistakes, injuries, or not making the team you hoped for — challenges are a part of development.

What separates players is not avoiding adversity, but how they respond to it.

The best players learn to use setbacks as motivation. They focus on controlling what they can: attitude, effort, preparation, and consistency. Growth often happens during the difficult moments, not the easy ones.

At Vigier Hockey Development, we encourage players to:

-Stay positive through challenges
-Learn from mistakes instead of fearing them
-Continue building good habits
-Compete with confidence and resilience
-Understand that development takes time

Adversity can build stronger athletes, better teammates, and more confident individuals when approached the right way.
As coaches, parents, and mentors, it’s important to remind young athletes that progress is rarely a straight line. Stay patient, trust the process, and continue putting in the work.

Tryouts come fast. Only 4-5 spots remaining

That is why Vigier Hockey’s Male and Female U13/U15 Prep Camps are built to help players sharpen the details that can separate them when it matters most: skating, speed, agility, passing, shooting, puck protection, confidence, and compete level.

Both camps include 12.5 hours of on-ice training plus 10 hours of dryland training, giving players the opportunity to focus on areas that often get overlooked during the busy winter season.

And with only 4–5 player spots remaining in each camp, now is the time to secure your spot.

Why This Camp Matters
This is not just about getting extra ice.
It is about preparing with purpose.
Players will work in small groups to get more repetitions, more correction, and more direct feedback. The goal is to help each athlete improve the skills they need to perform under pressure and walk into tryouts feeling prepared, confident, and ready to compete.

Training will focus on:
Speed and agility
Skating technique
Passing and puck movement
Shooting and scoring skills
Puck protection
Individual puck skills
Game-ready confidence
Tryout preparation

Vigier Hockey is also once again working with Tailor Goaltending, bringing in expert on-ice instruction to help strengthen the technical side for goaltenders.

Be Ready When Tryouts Arrive
Summer is when players can make real gains.
If your player is serious about being prepared for U13 or U15 tryouts, this camp is designed to help them train with focus, build confidence, and step on the ice ready to make an impact.
Spots are limited. Register today before the final openings are filled.

Last week we talked about 7 shooting tips players can work on at home — things like picking a target, shooting with your head up, slowing down between reps, making adjustments, and repeating with purpose.

That kind of work matters.

But there’s also a big difference between simply taking shots and learning how to become a real scoring threat. A great shot is not just about power. It is about release, timing, accuracy, deception, body position, and being able to get the puck off your stick quickly when there is pressure, traffic, or very little time to think.

That’s exactly what we will be working on this summer at the Vigier Hockey Shooting/Scoring Camp at Seven Oaks Arena

This clinic is designed to give players the high repetitions and detailed coaching needed to improve the mechanics of an effective, effortless shot. As the game gets faster, players need to be able to release the puck quickly, accurately, and with confidence. These sessions will focus on building the fundamentals of a quicker release, increasing shot velocity and accuracy, and applying those skills in game-like situations.

Players will work on:
Wrist shots
Snap shots
Backhands
Slap shots
One-timers
Shooting in stride and in motion
Quick release
Shooting under pressure
Changing the shooting angle

Clinic Details
Dates: July 27, July 29, August 2, August 4
Location: Seven Oaks Arena
U9/U11: 5:00–6:00 PM
U13/U15: 6:15–7:15 PM
Cost: $240

The goal is simple: help players build a better shot, understand how to use it, and develop the confidence to shoot with purpose when scoring chances appear.
At-home practice is a great start. This clinic gives players the structure, correction, repetition, and game-specific detail to take that shot to another level.

Great shooters are not built by firing 100 pucks as fast as possible. They are built through focused, purposeful repetition. At-home shooting practice is a great way for players to improve, but only if they slow down, work on the right details, and stay patient with the process.

Here are 7 simple tips to help players get more out of their at-home shooting sessions.

1. Pick one to two things to work on at a time (example Snap Shot)

2. Pick a target, shoot with your head up. Even if you miss

3. Take your time between shots, Not Rapid fire. (Do it correctly 10 times, not 50 incorrect times)

4. Do not judge the outcome. It will vary in the beginning until you really master it.

5. After each shot process what happened, make adjustments where needed.

6. Repeat 100’s of times with purpose.

7. Do not get stuck on the outcome. It is a journey and will take time.

And remember, registration for Vigier Hockey Summer High Performance Training continues. Keep building your game now so you’re ready to train with purpose this summer.

Are You Chasing the Right Thing?

“I want to be in the better group.”
It sounds like the right mindset—but is it actually in your best interest?

Chasing a stronger group doesn’t automatically make you a better player. In fact, it can have the opposite effect. Fewer puck touches lead to less confidence. Less confidence leads to hesitation. And before long, you become a player who isn’t driving the play—and ends up playing less.

Development doesn’t come from where you stand in the lineup. It comes from what you do with your opportunities.
When you’re in a competitive, evenly matched group, everything changes. You get more touches. You’re involved in more key moments. You’re forced to make plays under pressure. That’s where confidence is built. That’s where real growth happens.

Coaches aren’t just looking for players who can “keep up.” They’re looking for players who can drive a line—players who impact the game, create opportunities, and elevate those around them.

Look at Sidney Crosby. He doesn’t ask who’s in his group. He doesn’t wait for the perfect environment. He challenges himself every shift, every rep, every day.
That’s the standard.

Don’t focus on chasing the next group. Focus on becoming the player who forces their way into any group—because of how they compete, how they think the game, and how they execute.
The goal isn’t to be challenged.
The goal is to challenge yourself.

The difference between a shot and a goal often comes down to ex*****on.

Here’s how to fire a cleaner, harder, more accurate one-timer:

🏒 Set your feet early – get square to the puck before it arrives
🏒 Be ready before the pass – stick loaded, hands soft, eyes up
🏒 Meet the puck out front – don’t let it come to you
🏒 Weight transfer = power – back leg to front leg on release
🏒 Quick release, no hesitation – catch and shoot in one motion
🏒 Follow through to your target – high for top shelf, low for ice
💡 Great one-timers aren’t rushed—they’re timed.
Train it. Repeat it. Own it. ⚡️
