386th Sparks

Last week, our sparks travelled around the world to learn about a birthday tradition or game, and about the WAGGGS organization in different countries! We stopped in Ghana, Vietnam, Chile, the United Kingdom, and Australia!

This week we will be putting our detective hats on to test our senses 🔎👀👂🏼👅✋🏼👃🏼🔍

Last week our Sparks learned all about thinking day! This is a special Girl Guide holiday that celebrates Lord and Lady Baden-Powell’s birthday (they started Boys and Girls scouting and Guiding)!
We read an interactive story, learned all about the levels of guiding, and made a camp hat pin with the colours of each level! Do you remember any of the old uniforms from the nesting dolls?

Last week our Sparks continued to test their building skills by building safe homes for our little pigs. 🐷🐷🐷 Luckily most of our houses survived the big bad wolf coming to try and BLOW THEIR HOUSE DOWN! 🏡🐺
This week we will be celebrating friendship and Valentine’s Day with crafts and games! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Last week our girls had a blast creating their own paper bag or popsicle stick puppets before performing a play of their choice! We were treated to performances of “Itsy Bitsy Spider”🕷 🌧 ☀️, “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears”👧 🐻 🐻 🐻, “Little Red Riding Hood”👵🏻🐺, and “3 Little Pigs”! 🐷🐷🐷🐺
This week, we will be continuing with fairy tales by trying to build houses for the 3 little pigs! 🐷🏡🐷🏡🐷🏡

Last week our sparks played our own version of Candyland! Each coloured square had a different task for the team to complete to earn candy! Each team kept track of their own candy so they could keep track of their total number. Our winning team got up to 76! 🍬🍬🍬
This week Guider Connie will be working on our design skills and acting skills with a puppet theatre boot camp! 📝

In our first meeting, one of the things our sparks decided they wanted to learn about was building! We spent the night working on 2 LEGO challenges!
Challenge 1: Build a LEGO car, with a safe driver, that can make it down the ramp.
Challenge 2: Build any kind of hollow LEGO structure that can support the weight of at least 2 textbooks.
IT WAS A SUCCESS!! All of our cars made it down the ramp intact and all of our structures stayed standing tall! 🏎🏢

This week, we will be combining board games and math with a sweet twist! 🍬🍬

Just a reminder that last week was our LAST SPARKS MEETING until after the break. We will be resuming on January 6th. Have a wonderful and warm winter break! ❄️⛄️

Last week, our Sparks tested out our navigational skills by working on our cardinal directions! We made our own (non functional) compasses, and played games to learn North, East, South, and West. 🧭 🧭

Please remember to bring a small wrapped gift to our meeting this week for the exchange. We will be playing several winter games, doing a “sweet” winter craft, and having snacks to celebrate our last meeting before winter break! ☃️❄️

THERE WILL BE NO SPARKS THIS WEEK DUE TO A SCHOOL INSERVICE!
Last week, our Sparks put on their safari hats and went on a scavenger hunt for animals! We learned all about different habitats and why those animals live there. To finish off, we each made our own animals to place into their natural habitat! 🦊🦁🐒🦍🐆🐼🐻.

Last week, our Sparks went on a journey to Portugal! We learned all about their culture, language, traditional outfits, and guiding in their country! Although they don’t have a spark program, we learned the Little Bird promise (girls 6-10) in Portuguese! To finish off our evening, we learned some traditional Portuguese dance moves! 🇵🇹

Last week our sparks celebrated with a Halloween spooktacular. 👻 We began by playing a trick or treat relay, we played musical chairs, and turned some of our friends into mummies! 🍬🍫🎶
