Today the Kuss group is celebrating PhD student Nikita Thomas, who was awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship-Doctoral (PGS-D) by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). This is a wonderful recognition of Nikita's hard work and achievements and we are proud to have her as a member in our team.

Our most recent publication in Angewandte Chemie International Edition reports the quantitative monitoring of pharma-molecule transport in bacteria to investigate the relationship between membrane transport and antibiotic resistance.
Congratulations to Alon Golubchik (NSERC Undergrad Researcher), Luma Lopes (PhD student) and postdodctoral fellow Dr Vikram Singh on this review paper and their hard work.
Pharma‐molecule transport across bacterial membranes; detection and quantification approaches by electrochemistry and bioanalytical methods
Antibiotic resistance is a significant challenge encountered by healthcare systems on a global scale. Knowledge about membrane transport of antibiotics and other Antibiotic resistance is a significan...

Dr Sabine Kuss is proud to present a keynote lecture on "Bioelectrochemical Approaches towards the Detection and Quantification of Drug Resistance in Bacteria and Cancer" at the 71st Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry. This meeting was originally planned in Belgrade, but due to the pandemic, will now take place ONLINE from Aug 31st to Sep 4th.
Please be invited to share and discuss recent advances in electrochemistry. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with state-of-the-art research, even under the imposed travel restrictions. Registration closes August 10th.

Funding Success! We are excited to strengthen our collaboration with the faculty of medicine with this new funding, which will support our research on drug resistance in ovarian cancer.
Congratulations to Dr. Sabine Kuss who has been awarded a University Collaborative Research Program grant to fund research in collaboration with Dr. Mark Nachtigal (Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics) on the detection and quantification of drug resistance in ovarian cancer.

YAY! Our Scanning Electrochemical Microscope (SECM) has been installed this week and is now up and running. Mariam, Rafiqul, Huy and Sabine spent three intense days of training this week, learning how to operate the instrument and how to collect data. We are now able to conduct SECM, SICM and SECCM measurements in our lab. A big thank you goes to Frank Wang, lead engineer at HEKA Electronics Incorporated for his time and patience to train and work with us during the last days.

Huy and Dr Sabine Kuss conducted research at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) this week. Huy received training in the research group of Dr Lior Sepunaru at UCSB in the technique of impact chemistry, a quantitative electrochemical method soon to be used in the Kuss group at UofM. Many thanks to Lior and his team for the excellent training and welcome.
