October 4 is Manitoba's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Awareness Day and the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Persons.

The University is committed to the ongoing work of ensuring Indigenous knowledges and perspectives are honoured, and to participating in Reconciliation.

On the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+, we call attention to this ongoing crisis and encourage action. Familiarize yourself with the National Action Plan and the Progress Report, to find ways to honour those who are missing or have been murdered, and amplify the voices of their loved ones calling for action.

is hosting the inaugural Dr. Charlene Thacker Memorial Community Lecture on Monday, October 19, featuring Dr. Angela Stanley. Dr. Stanley’s research explores the intersections of race and culture, queerness, and disability.

This lecture will examine the continuing influence of eugenics; the discredited belief that humanity can be improved through selective reproduction; and why challenging its legacy remains essential to disability justice, gender equity, and social justice.

New Directions in Classics celebrates 10 years of bridging the ancient Greek and Roman times to our present! Over the past decade New Directions has had over 2000 audience members from the and downtown community participate in learning about the ancient world.

New Directions has been especially interested in scholars whose work looks beyond the canon of art and literature, or which delves into the lives of those who have been effaced, erased, and marginalized in the traditional accounts of the ancient Greek and Roman world.

The University will be closed on Wednesday, September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Campus re-opens Thursday, October 1.

This is an opportunity for the community to take time to reflect and to honour Survivors, their families, and their communities. This can be done by taking part in commemorative community events, and reading, reflecting, and learning more about the history of residential schools and your role in reconciliation.
