לכבוד יום ירושלים – הצצה אל המקור הקדום ביותר שמזכיר את שמה:

אחד הממצאים הארכיאולוגיים המרגשים ביותר שהתגלו בשנים האחרונות הוא "פפירוס ירשלמה" – תעודה נדירה מימי בית ראשון, המציינת במפורש את שמה של ירושלים. מדובר בממצא החוץ-מקראי הקדום ביותר שבו מוזכרת העיר, בכתב עברי קדום.

התעודה, עשויה פפירוס (נייר שיוצר מצמח הגומא), נתגלתה בעקבות מבצע מורכב של היחידה למניעת שוד ברשות העתיקות, לאחר שנשדדה באופן בלתי חוקי מאחת ממערות מדבר יהודה.

על גבי הפפירוס שרדו שתי שורות טקסט, אשר תוארכו באמצעות בדיקות פליאוגרפיות ובדיקת פחמן 14 לשלהי המאה ה-7 לפנה"ס. הטקסט נקרא כך:
*"[מא]מת. המלך. מנערתה. נבלים. יין. ירשלמה."*

לדעת החוקרים – פרופ' שמואל אחיטוב מהאוניברסיטה העברית, ד"ר איתן קליין ואמיר גנור מרשות העתיקות– מדובר בתעודת משלוח שהעבירה אמת המלך מהיישוב נערתה, ובה נשלחו כדי יין לירושלים.

נערתה, הנזכרת גם בספר יהושע (טז, ז), מחזקת את הקשר בין התעודה לבין ההתיישבות הקדומה בגבול שבין אפרים לבנימין.

"פפירוס ירשלמה" הוא תיעוד נדיר, קצר ומרגש של רגע מחיי היום-יום בממלכת יהודה, אשר שרד כ-2,700 שנה ומאיר באור חדש את שמה של ירושלים בעת העתיקה.

Abstract: Public passageways enable people, animals and goods to navigate a built environment, allowing access to residences, shops and public buildings, and also demarcate the spheres of society: economic versus social, sacred versus profane and public versus private. Passageways also mark the arrangement of neighborhoods and typically reflect a purposeful organization for settlements. This paper explores the nature of passageways at early urban settlements in the Southern Levant, and particularly their placement and maintenance in Early Bronze Age domestic neighborhoods. To this end, it summarizes the architecture, stratigraphy and artifactual remains associated with an alleyway in the recently excavated domestic neighborhood at Early Bronze Age III Tell eṣ-Ṣâfi/Gath, Israel (c. 2900–2400 BCE).
