Tons of representation this week at the 2026 Society for Socialist Studies Conference!
Robert Neubauer, Etta Stevens Potter (.steviepotter), Josh Potter () and Jason Hannan presented on Barriers to Socialist Projects: Rhetorical and Media Strategies of the Reactionary Right
Juscenta Haligowski (.mh) presented in the Indigenous Locations II session with "In Good Conscience: The Freedom Flotilla Coalition as Unprecedented Body Rhetoric"
(And lastly but not least!) Jason Hannan also contributed in sessions "AUTHOR MEETS CRITICS: Mobilizing Data for Justice" and "Marx and Nature: Political Challenges, Non-Identity and Nature - Critical Politics After Critical Theory"

Congratulations to Professor Jason Hannan on getting his article, "Reactionary Speech: The Art of Political Gaslighting" published in the current issue of Social Research: An International Quarterly.

Today marks an important day: the University of Winnipeg's 21st annual Graduation Pow Wow, which celebrates Indigenous students who will be graduating in June. Special congratulations to our very own Jessie Haligowksi, who received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition for her academic achievements! Good work, Jessie! The Department is proud of you! π

Applications are now open for the 2025-26 English-Speaking Union Prize (ESUP) scholarship!!
The ESUP is offered to RHET majors presenting the best piece of expository writing in an upper-level (2000 β 4000) rhetoric or writing course offered by the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications.
Award value: $2,000
Available awards: Up to 4
If interested to apply:
Submit an application form and a copy of your chosen essay submission (a paper that was written and graded to fulfill the requirements for a 2000 β 4000 level rhetoric or writing course offered by the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications in Spring or Fall 2025, or Winter 2026).
The deadline to apply is May 10, 2026.
