โœจ On May 14โ€“15, 2026, Ginew School in Roseau River First Nation proudly hosted the 24th Annual Gathering of Friends, welcoming neighbouring schools, students, educators, and community members to celebrate the culture, values, and traditions of Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation. ๐Ÿ’›

Throughout the two-day gathering, participants took part in interactive cultural workshops and hands-on activities across the school. From traditional First Nations games and regalia teachings to leather crafting, sweat lodge teachings, learning Anishinaabemowin through song, and enjoying fresh fried bannock, every experience was filled with learning, laughter, and connection.

The Gathering of Friends continues to create meaningful opportunities for youth to learn, share stories, and strengthen their understanding of First Nations culture and traditions.

The celebration ended in a vibrant Pow Wow, where participants experienced different dance styles and came together in a powerful friendship circle, a beautiful reminder of the importance of unity, and respect.

Abinoonjii Mino Ayaawin Camp creates a safe and empowering space for youth living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, and those supporting loved ones, to come together, learn, heal, and uplift one another.

Held at Assiniboia Camp just outside Winnipeg, students spent three days exploring wellness through mind, body, and spirit. From educational sessions with nurses, dieticians, and physiotherapists to outdoor games, movement activities, and cultural teachings, youth learned practical ways to support healthy living while building friendships and confidence along the way.

Through activities like double ball, movement games, nutrition teachings, and wellness discussions, students discovered that living well with diabetes is about more than just physical health, itโ€™s also about community, connection, culture, and balance.

โ€œAbinoonjii Mino Ayaawinโ€ in Anishinaabemowin means Child Wellness. โœจ
