Suzuki Music Winnipeg

Suzuki Music Winnipeg Suzuki Music Winnipeg Inc. (SMW) has been an extra-curricular, non-profit music program since 1969, offering instruction in violin, viola and cello in Wpg.

is one of the longest running music programs in Winnipeg. All of our students (ages 4 and up) attend weekly private lessons and group lessons throughout the school year. Performance opportunities include two large group concerts, solo recitals, and small group performances in the community at venues such as WSO Musicians in the Making and MCO pre-concert performances. Since 1969, our program (formerly called Suzuki Talent Education Institute of Manitoba) has produced thousands of talented musicians, from students at Julliard to those who develop a life-long love of music. Today our program consists of 73 students. All SMW teachers have received registered training through the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), and all are Active teacher members of the SAA. Because the Suzuki Method is an internationally recognized method of music instruction, there are many opportunities (nationally and internationally) for students, parents and teachers to further their education by attending workshops and summer institutes. Based on a philosophy of respect for the child, Dr. Suzuki said "talent is not inherited and the potential of every child is unlimited. His main goals were for the child to build a noble soul, to develop an appreciation of beauty, to give a sense of purpose to life, to learn the discipline of acquiring a skill and to become fine human beings."
