Food, eating, preparation of meals is RICH in tradition and we often do based on what we were taught and ate.
(And there is privilege to have access to food in general).

Our job as specialists in Nutrition Counselling is to support and educate unique individuals and meet them where they are at.
It’s a disservice to struggles of others to refer to their struggles as something that has a “simple” solution.
It’s our position in wellness, fitness, nutrition, mental, emotional counselling to help get through the storm together, be honest about the hardships and come up with small solutions to sustainably impact the lives of our clients.

Health Language and information ALWAYS evolves and it is important for representation, validity and community building.
We only know what we were taught and learning words around our health and the health of others that maybe we grew up with as “common” doesn’t mean they last effectively.
Here are some terms in the health world we tend to see on social media that can affect both our inner psyches and our relationships with those saying them.
Hot tip: When we observe, we can observe without immediately expressing what we observe.
Take a moment to ask ourselves: does this need to be said? What “needs to” be said versus “do I need to say anything”?

“I won’t use before and after photos to define my success or my body’s ‘progress.’” -a promise to myself.
There is NO photo comparison of you that will ever show a version of you that isn’t Worthy of Love.
Read that again.
It’s not new news, we’ve heard several people say the “fittest” they’ve ever looked was under serious health conditions like high stress, over-training, under-eating, dehydration and even substance use.
Yet there are still so many accounts posting before and after photos as some kind of evidence…that their program/coaching works and if you want to have this too than use them.
The look of your body DOES NOT represent your health.
There are so many reasons why we hold onto and why we lose weight and there are too many factors to capture in a photo.
The B&A body photo culture is diet culture. And a leading comparison that leaves out the whole picture, discrediting the YOU in your story.
Remember you have genes,
your stress,
your job or schooling,
your family, YOUR LIFE, and the body you are in is a special one.
It got you here, and though you can always choose how you’d like to represent yourself, please know you are already a success.
There is NO photo comparison that will ever convince me your body wasn’t worthy.
You were and always will be worthy.

You can HYDRATE with food???
You can RECOVER with coffee??
Whaaattt? But yes, it’s true!!
Thankfully, local coffee biz taught me they have different blends with flavours and strengths because I found using a STRONG brewed coffee to pair with bananas for my favourite summer treat.
By adding the sodium from salt, and the potassium from the banana, it’s a cool down treat that included electrolytes.
Electrolytes help us keep hydrated and are essential to the body.
For captain obvious- we of course need to have water paired with our banana treat!
A little bit of carbs and caffeine (for those not sensitive) is also great after your outdoor activities or running around because it can help muscles refuel!!!
So the next time you’re thinking about summer treats, consider this one!

TIP: I freeze and refreeze twice, mixing both times with in a food processor. You can always taste and add more of what you want it to taste like!

Summer Bods, Bathing Suit Bods, Dream Bods...
IF YOU HAVE A BOD- it’s summer ready and oh so dreamy already.
For those wanting to lose weight,
knowing what our hunger cues feel like is a body signal we WANT to look out for and NOT ignore.
Eating foods that are mentally and physically satisfying, and doing so consistently is the way to go for weight loss.
Many people assume that feeling hungry means “the diet is working.”
This is often paired with
deceased cognitive function, depressed or altered mood,
variable emotions
and low/lack of energy stores for daily duties or physical activities.
Clients, family, friends, myself: sometimes we can all slip into that feeling that if you eat less you will lose weight!!!
But there scenario sets us up to eat more, gain more, lose muscle (and potentially the “shape” or composition of our bodies).
I know it can sound surprisingly but sometimes eating more, what you eat and how you approach hunger cues... can ACTUALLY HELP LOSE MORE WEIGHT!!!
I love when clients say “ why am I losing weight and yet I’m full and satisfied all the time !!” #🎉😊😊

KOMBUCHA SUMMA!!
If you and I are alike, you maybe don’t digest a variety of foods on the best of days...
I was introduced to by my friend Laura when she was shopping local a lot last year.
Not only is this Jasmine flavoured one taste lovely, Wolseley K made this blend of organic green tea and organic jasmine flower.
BOOCH can often help with:
-feelings of bloat,
-relief when things feels stuck... (gets your 🌈💩 moving
-a form of hydrating that tastes great
-a great beverage if you are limiting drinking alcohol or don’t drink alcohol at social events.
Not saying the K Bouchi is for everyone but it’s been incredible that I can trust something I won’t react to and even helps my tummy pain get better for days in the sunny park!
A happy tummy can help us stay mentally calm and upbeat- which is great for summer and hopefully a distanced visit or 17.
