West Broadway Youth Outreach

Last week’s Meet a Mentor Night was a powerful reminder of what happens when young people are given space to learn, ask questions, and be seen. ✨

Our youth showed up prepared, confident, and curious—putting weeks of practice into action as they speed-interviewed mentors and shared their ideas, goals, and dreams. 🗣️💭 Watching them lead thoughtful conversations and engage with such confidence was truly inspiring.

A heartfelt thank you to the mentors who generously shared their time, stories, and encouragement. 💛 presence helped our youth explore new pathways and imagine what their futures can look like. These moments of connection matter, and they stay with our children long after the evening ends.

We are grateful to our families, mentors, and community for helping make this meaningful experience possible. 🤝 It takes caregivers who support their children’s growth, mentors who give their time and wisdom, and a community that values youth voices to create spaces where young people feel encouraged, capable, and inspired.

This work is strengthened through sustained public investment in youth. We are thankful for the support of the Government of Manitoba, whose commitment to mentorship helps ensure young people have access to opportunity, guidance, and possibility.

About Dreams 🌱
Dreams is a career mentorship program that helps youth explore the infinite possibilities their future holds and provides them with the tools to get there. Since 2010, Dreams participants have taken part in over 60 mentorship meetings with professionals across a wide range of fields—from marine biology, midwifery, and engineering to photography and music.

By meeting mentors who are actively living their goals, youth are able to see their own dreams as achievable and real—transforming a drifting wish into a possible future. 🚀

Raymond has shown remarkable dedication in Homework Club this month, and we are so proud of his hard work. As our November winner, he will be receiving a bundle of special prizes and seeing a Jets game to celebrate his wonderful achievement.

Homework Club is one of WBYO’s signature programs, where children receive one-on-one guidance from our staff and volunteers to build strong study habits and confidence.
• Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
• 3:00 pm – 5:55 pm
• Children with the strongest attendance and positive staff feedback are eligible to become our next Top Homework Club Rockstar!

And his birthday wish this year?

“To cover the cost of flying the Top Homework Club Rockstar of 2025 to Calgary for an unforgettable weekend.”

So now, the first weekend in July, our top academic superstar will head to Calgary for a celebration that proves one thing:

For April’s Top Homework Club Kid!

As much as the Executive Director of West Broadway Youth Outreach - Ken doesn’t want to admit it, he misses the children at WBYO more than he can put into words. 💛😢

Since his family is tired of him moping around—talking nonstop about your children being the greatest thing since dinosaurs 🦖, how they walk on water 💧👣, etc.—they’ve bought him a ticket ✈️ to fly to Winnipeg on Friday, May 23rd.

He’ll volunteer at Homework Club 📚✏️ and take April’s Top Homework Club Kid 🏆 out for supper 🍽️ and a movie 🎬 of their choice, paid for by Ken’s ever-so-grateful family (for taking him off their hands 🙌😂).
