A Winnipeg mother showed immense courage by jumping into the Red River to save a toddler and their father near St. John's Park on August 24.

Jayclyn Morrissette, 32, was walking with her neighbour when she noticed a child struggling in the water. After the father also jumped in and began to struggle, Morrissette immediately emptied her pockets and entered the river.

She first helped her neighbour pull the father to safety. Then Morrissette swam back out to retrieve the unconscious toddler, performing CPR on the child as she swam to the riverbank.

The girl was taken to hospital in critical condition but is now expected to make a full recovery, according to Winnipeg police. Police praised Morrissette's "remarkable courage and selflessness" in saving strangers.

Morrissette, a mother herself, stated, "I don't feel like a hero." She added, "I'm glad I was there. They're lucky I was there. I wish it just never happened."

This incident highlights the strong community spirit and selflessness that defines Manitobans, inspiring us to consider how strong and important every person can be.
