During class time, we try to mix on theme games/toys with practical life skills such as pinching or scooping. These are skills needed to build muscles for fine motor tasks while also being fun!

This week we did some prep work for spring! In the next two weeks we will have some gardening days and we wanted to know what is happening in the plant life cycle and what are the names of its parts? To get a full picture, the students were able to dissect flowers today!

Creepy crawlers are an invertebrates! While we discussed what makes a living thing a vertebrate or invertebrate, we were able to touch items we had such as a starfish, sea sponge and a tarantula shed!

Two weeks ago the students had a great time learning about their dental health! From labeling the parts, brushing teeth and making art with toothbrushes!

We were also able to see what the lion dance looks like and try our dancing skills with this lion gifted from one of Gulliver’s past travels!

✨ Lunar New Year 2026 ✨ To celebrate that Tuesday was the lunar new year, the students learnt a bit about what lunar new year is and tried making their own paper lanterns!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today we wrapped up our second Valentine’s Day party. The students had a chance to hand out their cards and receive from others in bags that were decorated.

Last week we discussed our senses, talking about how we experience life with our hands, noses, mouths, eyes and ears! We taste tested snacks that were sweet/salty, bitter/sweet and felt around in a mysterious bag trying to guess what the item was without looking. We experimented by making “edible paint” by adding food colouring and a flavour to yogurt so that we could do a painting with all our senses!

Goodbye 2025! As our last day of school came, we bundled up in our pjs and watched some Disney plus. The morning students were also able to go deliver some Krispy Kreme to Lincoln middle school for thanks to all that they do for us! Woody was also able to see himself in the big screen 🍿

Due to severe weather conditions and unsafe travel for both students and staff, SJMS will be closed today, Thursday, December 18. The safety of our community is our top priority, and after careful consideration, we believe closing the school is the best decision to ensure everyone remains safe.

An update regarding classes tomorrow will be shared with families by email.
