Every year as children go back to school🎒they often get a cold and colds make asthma worse. Things like smoke from wildfires🔥, outdoor mould, pollen and stress can also contribute to worsening asthma. To prevent asthma problems, be sure your child is using Asthma Controller medicine every day.

World Asthma Day is May 5, 2026
Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in children. Here in Manitoba about 12% of children live with asthma every day.
For kids, asthma isn’t just a cough. Uncontrolled asthma can mean:
• Missing school days
• Sitting out of sports and play
• Nighttime symptoms that affect sleep
• Needing Reliever medicine (blue inhaler) 2 times a week
• Trips to the Emergency Department
The good news? Asthma can be controlled:
• Take Controller medicine as prescribed
• Avoid asthma triggers like smoke, colds and allergies
• Have an Asthma Action Plan.
