World Asthma Day is May 5, 2026
Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in children. Here in Manitoba about 12% of children live with asthma every day.
For kids, asthma isn’t just a cough. Uncontrolled asthma can mean:
• Missing school days
• Sitting out of sports and play
• Nighttime symptoms that affect sleep
• Needing Reliever medicine (blue inhaler) 2 times a week
• Trips to the Emergency Department
The good news? Asthma can be controlled:
• Take Controller medicine as prescribed
• Avoid asthma triggers like smoke, colds and allergies
• Have an Asthma Action Plan.
Every child deserves to breathe easy, be active and sleep through the night. Learn more about asthma: https://youtu.be/JLJ-c6_tvnY?si=2doi3R3DZBqT-PWQ

As children go back to school🎒they often get a cold and colds make asthma worse. Things like smoke from wildfires🔥, outdoor mould, pollen and stress can also contribute to worsening asthma. To prevent asthma problems, be sure your child is using Asthma Controller medicine every day.

☀️🏖️ Choosing a Sunscreen for Children with Eczema 🧴👶
✅ Choose a mineral-based sunscreen
✅ Look for chemical-free and fragrance-free options
✅ Cream-based sunscreens are more moisturizing
⚠️ Sprays may irritate sensitive skin
🚫 Don't apply to broken or open skin – control eczema flare-ups first
🧪 Always patch test before full application
👒 Use wide-brim hats and UV protective clothing
🌳 Stay in the shade whenever possible
🔥 Overheating can trigger eczema flares
