Interested in exploring music therapy? Jaimie Terpstra will be offering music therapy services at CSMA starting September, 2026.

Music therapy is the use of music within the context of a therapeutic relationship, to support and achieve therapeutic goals (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual health). Music is both verbal and non-verbal, and has creative, physical, cognitive, and emotional qualities. In the session these musical characteristics are used to facilitate receptive and expressive experiences, contributing to growth and personal development.

Music therapy is client focused, using both the relationship formed between therapist and client, and the music itself to bring about positive change.

Looking for more information on music therapy? Check out our website https://www.cmu.ca/csma/programs/music_therapy

As a board-certified music therapist since 2023, Jaimie supports individuals and groups of all ages and backgrounds. Her one-on-one work has focused on young children and pre-teens who are working on goals related to speech, academics, mobility, emotional regulation, social skills, and attention. Jaimie’s approach is centred on being client-led and affirming, while still entering each session with a thoughtful plan to support individual goals and needs.

She brings over 10 years of experience working in various settings with kids and individuals with disabilities. Her passion for this work comes from a desire to support individuals and families in their goals, nurture a healthy community, and make music accessible and fun.
