Calling all Indigenous storytellers!!!

Applications for the 2026/27 Pimootayowin Cohort are currently open for submissions!

Pimootayowin Creator's Circle at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (RMTC) Is a mentorship and playwriting program designed exclusively for Manitoba-based Indigenous artists to hone their storytelling skills for the stage. The six-month-long program culminates with a public reading of your work during the Pimootayowin Festival of New Work.

What’s stopping you from following your dreams? For mentee Yvonne Ducharme, nothing!

Yvonne’s journey started in 2022 when she had the desire to sew. She needed a ribbon skirt for a powwow and knew she had to create it. After some help from a great friend, the proud feeling she had after finishing made her want to keep going, beyond ribbon skirts into more handmade indigenous art.

Iris is a dedicated designer with a rich background in the textile industry, encompassing various roles and experience. Inspired in the past by a mentor of her own, Iris has used fabric as her paint and emphasizes continuous and improvement in her design work.

How did these two designers work together and how did Iris challenge Yvonne to expand her fashion artistry? Read this new spotlight to find out more and if you’re between the ages of 19-32, consider applying for a mentorship of your own!
