From acting to filmmaking and storytelling, Evan Friesen’s creative journey has taken many turns. With the guidance and experience of his professional mentor Rebecca Gibson, Evan was able to take his skills to the next level!

After a successful pitch at the Gimli International Film Festival, Evan began work on his upcoming film 'Maladaptive'. His mentor Rebecca aided him in refining the core thesis of the project and developing a proof-of-concept short film to demonstrate the project’s viability. Rebecca also led him through numerous writing exercises through the lens of finding the project’s audience, and melding creative expression with feasibility.

After developing and finalizing the script through the first few months of mentorship, Evan initiated and successfully completed principal photography throughout March 2026.

When two powerful creative forces come together, so much more is achieved! Read more about Evan and Rebecca's mentorship experiences and consider applying for mentorship yourself when the program re-opens this summer!
