Rotary Career Symposium

Rotary Career Symposium

The Rotary Career Symposium was a huge success. Over 1200 high school students stopped by our booth to learn about education for a better world. Thank you to the Rotary Career Symposium for having us and RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg for hosting this amazing event. We had students from Kelvin High School, Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, Elmwood High, Cecil Rhondes School and River East Collegiate come and visit us. Several played mini golf and won free bags, and others put their names in for our grand prizes which included an Instax camera with film, Beats and a Nintendo switch. We will be choosing the winners tomorrow so keep your eye on your phones. Also, Dr. Alexander Sawatsky, Associate Professor and Director, School of Social Work taught a workshop on Careers in Social Work. For more information about programs at Booth UC, please visit our website at or contact our admissions team at [email protected].
It’s the last day here at Rotary Career Symposium and with over 185 exhibit booths and 30 speaker sessions there is so much to take in. Visit Kathy and DD at booth 627 or check out this blog to find out our 5 tips for making Set Your Course work for you:

Connect to your career and your passion at the Career Café! Make connections with community employment service experts in career exploration, essential skills for the workplace, resume writing, interview skills, training and the job market. They’ll help you get on the right path! The Career Café is great for adults needing advice and guidance to making a career decision, a career change or getting back to a career.

Research shows that parents have the most influence on their children's careers and post-secondary decisions, and we strongly encourage parental involvement. They might not ever ask you for it, but knowing you’re there and ready to support them - whether they ask you for advice or not - can give them the confidence and security they need to make the right decisions for themselves. Students who register with their school have the opportunity to bring a parent to the Symposium free of charge on April 21 from 6-9pm. 04/15/2015

Our speakers have all been confirmed for this year. You can expect to see a wide variety of careers including, a lawyer, make-up artist, accountant, doctor and many more. Speaker Sessions are 20 mins long with a 10 min question and answer period and take place on the 2nd floor. No pre-registration is required. Check out videos of our past speakers on our YouTube page.

Be sure to visit the Career Discovery activity center and learn about the world of Manufacturers and Exporters! With hands-on activities, each activity station will simulate a step in the Manufacturing cycle. You will begin with design, moving then to learn about the many steps and of the build process and what it takes to complete a project in the final assembly stage.

Our Show Guide is officially available to download online! The guide includes our the show floor map, where and when you can find the Speaker Sessions and so much more. It will help you to navigate the symposium and get the most out of your visit.

We love hearing from past attendees of the Symposium!
“I am a second year student at the University of Winnipeg in the Faculty of Education. The Symposium helped me years ago to confirm my choice to follow the path of education and I would love to participate in the conference myself! It’s a great outlet for youth. ”

Less than a month away until the Symposium! Has your schooled registered up yet? It isn’t too late! Head to our website to register your students.

The Engineering Innovation Challenge has become a staple of the Rotary Career Symposium. It encourages you to pursue a technological career path by providing you with the opportunity to experience the hands-on aspect of design. You will attempt to build and test models to achieve a certain goal while learning to work under a time limit with their peers!

Students will be required to use skills necessary in a technological work environment such as creative thinking, working as a team and time management.

Registration occurs before 11:00 am during the morning of April 21 & 22 at the Engineering Innovation Challenge Information booth located on the third floor of the Convention Centre

Not sure what questions to ask exhibitors? Being prepared and knowing what questions to ask will help you get the most out the Symposium.

Ask questions like:
What do you do on a typical day in your job/occupation?
What training/education is required and where can I get it?
Is there a demand for people to do this job in Manitoba and Canada right now?
