Meet Divine and Orlando! 👋 (le français suit)
They received MCIC's 2026 Outstanding Take Action Project Award for their "AI, Ethics, and the Environment" event. 💚

Divine and Orlando from Gordon Bell High School brought 100 students together to talk AI. Through hands-on activities, guest speakers and open dialogue, students from across Winnipeg School Division had an experience created by students for students.

Why did they choose to talk AI? Because they see AI everywhere and it's not going away. Their event encouraged other students to consider when they use AI and why. For Orlando, who wants to be a teacher, he's worried for future students. "I'm worried that they're going to rely on AI... I plan to teach them not to do that."

Any advice for other students? Divine recommends staying involved in your community or school. She also says it's important to share your feelings and ideas. "Put yourself out there, even if it might not work out, it's fine, it's completely okay."

Rencontrez Divine et Orlando! Ils ont reçu le prix du MCIC 2026 du meilleur projet d'action pour leur événement « IA, éthique et environnement ».

Élèves de l’école Gordon Bell High School, ils ont réuni une centaine d'élèves pour discuter d'IA. Par des activités pratiques, des intervenant·es et des partages, les élèves du Winnipeg School Division ont vécu une expérience créée par des élèves pour des élèves.

Pourquoi ont-ils choisi de parler d'IA? Parce que c’est partout et que c'est là pour durer. Leur événement a incité d'autres élèves à réfléchir à leur utilisation de l'IA et à sa raison d’être. Orlando, qui souhaite devenir enseignant, s'inquiète pour les futurs élèves : « J'ai peur qu'ils deviennent trop dépendants de l'IA… Je compte leur apprendre à ne pas l'être. »

Un conseil pour les autres élèves? Divine recommande de s'impliquer dans sa communauté ou son école. Elle souligne aussi l'importance de partager ses sentiments et ses idées : « Impliquez-vous! Même si ça ne marche pas, ce n'est pas grave, c’est complètement correct. »
