Hear from our Keynote Speaker Sunday Queskekapow on "The need for accessibility support for our northern relatives, and the celebration of neurodivergent folks in our communities"

Sunday Queskekapow (They/Them) is a Two-Spirit, Status First Nations, neurodiverse, and trans youth with mixed Néhinawak, Métis, and settler ancestry. Originally from Ohpáskowayáhk (The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation) and a registered band member of Kínoséwi Sípíhk (Norway House Cree Nation), both located-on Treaty 5 Territory, they now live, advocate, and study on Treaty 1 Territory. For nearly 10 years, they have been a dedicated advocate for northern Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. Guided by their role as a Níso Ahcahk Ká-Ayácik (Two-Spirit person) and their commitment to their community, they continue to support Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in various roles whilst completing their Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Manitoba.

Calling disabled adults in MB! 📢 We’re sharing an important new study from the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights and the University of Winnipeg.

If you have a disability, chronic condition, or access need that affects your housing or daily life, they want to hear from you. The goal is to better understand the housing barriers and discrimination disabled people face across Canada.

Participants can enter a draw for one of 20 $50 gift cards.

MLPD is excited to announce our new Executive Director Sue Hemphill.

Sue has dedicated her career to advancing equity, inclusion, and access for persons with disabilities /differing gifts / abilities (and all equity-seeking groups). Early in her career, Sue was the International Twinning Projects Coordinator at MLPD, working closely with DPI, CPA, the local Central American community coordinating partnership with persons with disabilities in Guyana and Nicaragua. At ILRC, Sue provided Assertive Communication and Self-Advocacy Training and at Manitoba Possible Sue was the Community Development Specialist, working as an advocate, self-advocacy-mentor, disability awareness trainer, program and partnerships developer he program now called the Newcomer Navigation and Support Unit.

As a Human Rights Officer with the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, she educated the public on protections under the Code and mediated complaints related to discrimination and duty to accommodate. Sue has been a DEIJ trainer and consultant across diverse sectors and as a Sessional University professor for over 25 years.

Since 2010, through her consulting company, Healthy Hive Consulting, Sue has trained, coached and facilitated boards, executives, and staff across nearly all organizations in Manitoba’s disability sector. She has been recognized with awards and scholarships as a non-profit leader, social-entrepreneur, and business owner. She has also advanced access for artists with disabilities through her role as Program Consultant with the Manitoba Arts Council and as one of the founders of the Arts AccessAbility Network of Manitoba.

With decades of lived-experience navigating life with a disability, Sue is thrilled to return to MLPD as Executive Director, working alongside the talented staff team and Provincial Council to continue building inclusive opportunities for all.
