Dear Schools on Board community,
The Schools on Board Program will be coming to a close at the end of March 2018. As a national outreach program of ArcticNet, it brought high school students and teachers from across Canada ‘on board’ the Arctic research vessel, CCGS Amundsen. Since it’s inception in 2004, this unique program has provided participants with a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Arctic and Arctic research first hand and connected classrooms across the country to the important work of ArcticNet. In addition to the highly successful field program on board the CCGS Amundsen, Schools on Board initiated and developed other programming including the biennial Arctic Climate Change Youth Forum, and the annual Arctic Science Day.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the ArcticNet community, the Canadian Coast Guard Service, and the many Northern communities that supported this unique program making it the success it was. I would also like to acknowledge the many individuals, organizations, and businesses that generously supported our participating schools.
Personally, it was an absolute pleasure to work with so many interesting people and I am so grateful for all the amazing experiences and friendships I have made during my time as Program Coordinator
In celebration of the success of Schools on Board, we want to leave you with a short video that was created by Build Films capturing the essence of the field program.
Many thanks and warm wishes,
Michelle and Lucette

Churchill will lead again as Canada’s Arctic gateway
When I was two years old, my father moved our family from York Factory on Hudson Bay to Churchill in search of greater opportunities as the fur trade was winding down. We were one of the last remaining Cree families to leave and since that time, I have been proud to call Churchill my home.
