Did you know that June 9th is International Archives Day?

In 2007 at the annual general meeting of the International Council on Archives (ICA), June 9th was selected for the holiday, the same date that the ICA was created in 1948.

The holiday is meant to share the unique and extraordinary documents preserved in archives and highlights the need for long-term archival preservation.

A new fonds (25.28) is available! These records were originally collected by Dr. Wesley Stevens, who was a UW History professor who specialized in the history of medieval science and technology.

The documents in the fonds are all about the history of computing at the UW and the University of Manitoba (UM) campuses. This includes a 1986 user manual on MANTES, the Manitoba Text Editing System developed by UM.

You can see more images of aviation history online on WCPI through the RAMWC collection - http://digitalcollections.uwinnipeg.ca/digital/collection/p15931coll2/id/3850/rec/19

The for this month is !

This image, part of the University Relations Communication collection, shows an unknown student engaging in the long tradition of cooking in residence. Today you might use an electric griddle or air fryer, but he is using a portable gas stove indoors (which can't be very safe!)

Come visit the UW Archives if you want to view more from our photo collections.
