A community grassroots combat sports program with the goal of improving our local community while building physically and emotionally strong future leaders

01/19/2022

Seeing how successful last week's collaboration session went with over 300 students logged in, we invite everyone to join us for another fun evening of classes this Friday!

Open to anyone from any schools!! - ask your instructor first and contact us for login information.

5:45 pm: recreational class for all belts and ages with myself and Master Akmal Farah (former national team coach and athlete)

6:45 pm: Sport TKD training (any levels, but you will need something to kick either a bag or pads/holder) with National Team coach Master George Koh

Feel free to stay on for both sessions.
Let's see if we can hit the 500 person cap on Zoom this week!

After careful consideration, we will be postponing classes.

Unfortunately at this time their are not enough students enrolled (only 10), and we cannot feasibly operate with that low of enrolment.

We have held off until the last possible second, in hopes that our new registrations and returning students/athletes would be sufficient. It unfortunately is not.

We will be revisiting opening again in the near future, and we hope to eventually see all of our athletes and students return.

We encourage our students and their parents to reach out when they are feeling comfortable to return to classes. If we have more athletes and students willing to return, we will be able to begin operating classes once more.

Greetings everyone! It’s been a busy day with one of my kids having hernia surgery so no video walk-through of the community centre today.

Our first class back will be Tuesday September 1st. Participants are asked to bring the following:
-athletic outdoor clothing
-athletic outdoor SHOES
-a water bottle
-their taekwondo belt
-a small gym bag, containing their tkd uniform/dobok, white uniforms should not be worn to avoid grass stains outside
-masks are optional but should be worn during arrival and pickup or at times when social distancing may be difficult, masks will not be required during class since 6ft spacing will be in effect (each person will have their own cone to stand and train at). Please note that a neck gator is a good option because I wear mine around my neck or as a headband/sweatband, and can use it as a breathable courtesy nose/mouth covering when suitable. PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT BEING ENCOURAGED TO WEAR A MASK WHILE ENGAGING IN EXERCISE.

Please arrive within a fifteen minute time-window BEFORE class to allow time for screening (5:15-5:30pm). If you or family members are currently sick with any fever or respiratory concerns please stay home. We will confirm this verbally with you at the community centre entrance. We will use our temperature gun on the child/participant to confirm that they do not have a fever. Parents/guardians/caregivers or adult participants will sign the waiver from the community centre at the entrance (needs to be done every class as per their policy). Masks are encouraged at this time but not mandated, Mr Little or screening instructor will wear a face covering at this point.

CLASS TIMES: At this time on Tuesdays regular class will run from 5:30pm-6:15pm and advanced class will run 6:30pm-7:30pm. On Thursdays the competition team training will run from 5:30-7:00pm.

It is our intent to have as many classes outside in the adjacent field as possible but please note that pre-screening will occur at either the building or field entrance. We will still be treating the program as a drop-off and pick-up program. City of Winnipeg community centre staff will remain on site even when we train outside so that urgent washroom use can be accommodated.

My knee jerk reaction is to have parents stay and watch classes outside however it is noteworthy that part of the community centre guidelines is for the centre to only be used by program participants and except for a number of already discussed exceptions (ie trial classes being observed by a parent/guardian) we will be treating the class in this same manner even when outdoors.

Participants for the start of class will make their way to their individual training space identified by a coloured cone. These training spaces will be more than 6ft apart to allow for movement. Mr Little will be providing most correction verbally and the classes while comprise of the general structure:
-dynamic stretching and warmup
-high intensity interval training and cardio
-sport specific body weight exercises
-poomse and technical movement
-cooldown stretching for flexibility

We look forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday! If there are any questions or areas in need of clarification then please let us know!

Classes will resume in two weeks! (Tuesday September 1st)

Please remember that class sizes will be limited, it will be drop-off/pick-up only, and social distancing will be in effect. I will record and post a sample walk-through class for next week. Looking forward to seeing our athletes there!

A stronger core = stronger kicks. Beat Mr. Little’s time of 20minutes for 3 sets (make sure you do both sides for each exercise, or flutters, scissors, and side raises) 😉 post your times for parents and/or students!

Good afternoon all!

Self defense specialists say the best predictor of surviving a critical incident is simply being in a state of good athletic health. COVID-19 experts say the best preventative steps that everyone can do these days (outside of obvious hand washing etc) is to eat well, get enough sleep, and be physically active in order to keep our immune systems strong.

I’m eating pretty healthy, getting 6+ hrs of sleep, and lifting weights four times a week.

Picture: My morning recovery meal after weight training the night before (pea protein from bulk barn, lots of water first thing when I get up, chia seeds and oatmeal “overnight oats”, 2 hardboiled eggs, creatine in my coffee.

What did our athletes and families having this morning to live healthy (best defense against COVID-19)? Come on, post pictures, I know lots of you take them for self gratification haha! Please post on the main nomadic page so we can all steal healthy morning routine ideas from each other... remember this is part of training 😉
