The Program
This program is designed to offer residence students of the University of Manitoba the opportunity to enrich their educational experience, and prepare themselves for a life of leadership and service in this constantly changing world. Program participants will be dealing with questions regarding their personal identity around core values, lifestyle, contribution, community and citizensh
ip. As well, students will also participate in discussions on topics concerning global citizenship such as leadership, globalization, human rights, and conflict resolution. Practical experiences, group discussions, and the creation of a personal “life plan” throughout the year will help the students to find their place in the world and support them on their way to becoming engaged leaders and global citizens. The program will culminate with an international experience in San Jose, Costa Rica that will involve a volunteer service project. Program Breakdown
• Personal Development: life mapping seminar and one-on-one mentorship sessions.
• Seminar Series: seminars and workshops facilitated by industry experts.
• Local Volunteer Project: service projects with Siloam Mission (a non-profit organization serving the needs of Winnipeg´s homeless and disadvantaged).
• International Institute and Volunteer Project: a trip to Costa Rica where participants will participate in an outreach program with a NGO that works in the slums of San Jose, Costa Rica. Program Objectives
• To have the opportunity to connect and integrate core values, academic commitment, and service to society while developing capacities to be an effective, engaged global citizen
• To learn about different world views by interacting with peers from different backgrounds
• To give back to the community through voluntary work with a local service agency
• Creation of an individual “life map” by delving into personal philosophies about leadership and citizenship
• Opportunity to lead, organize, and implement a global institute involving students from across the Americas who are also exploring what it means to be a “global citizen”
• To get an international volunteer experience and be exposed to the work of NGOs by assisting in a service project in San Jose, Costa Rica

• Siloam Mission (local NGO) is a Christian humanitarian agency that helps the homeless and poor in Winnipeg. www.siloam.ca
• Negotiations are currently underway to host the program with the University of Costa Rica and Futbol por la Vida.
