The earliest master treatise from which the seven major dance forms of India - Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam and Odissi - sprang forth is the Natya Shastra, compiled by Sage Bharata c. 200 B.C.E. In 1933, a need arose for the rebirth of the danceform formerly known as sadhir. Krishna Iyer chose to use the pen name of eminent music critic Dr. V. Raghavan, who wrote under the name of BhavaRagaThala, to coin a fresh name for sadhir, calling it BhaRaTha-natyam

BRT Academy of Dance & Music is delighted to present the **Bharatanatya Arangetram of Kumari Manusri Vanu Ramprasath**, disciple of Guru *“Abhinaya Kala Jyothi”* Smt. Shylaja Ramprasath.

After years of dedicated learning, rigorous training, performances and artistic growth, Manusri is all set to take the stage for this significant milestone in her Bharatanatyam journey. ✨

✨ **Still soaking in all the love for NAVASHAKTHI!** ✨

What an overwhelming response we received from the audience at **Folklorama 2026 – India Pavilion!** ❤️🙏

After our **Navashakthi** performances, so many beautiful words came our way…

✨ *“We could see Devi in each one of them.”*
✨ *“Absolutely mesmerizing!”*
✨ *“We want to watch it all over again!”*
✨ *“Do you have a video? We would love to see it again!”*

As a teacher and choreographer, hearing these words means more than I can express. **Navashakthi was created not simply as a dance, but as an experience — to portray the different manifestations of Shakthi and bring the divine feminine energy alive on stage.**

When someone from the audience says, *“We saw Devi in each one of them,”* that is perhaps the greatest compliment this production could receive. ❤️

So incredibly proud of our dancers for giving themselves completely to the characters, expressions, energy and spirit of the choreography. You didn't just perform **Navashakthi — you brought it to life.** 🌺

What a strong performance of the **Nattakurinji Varnam** by our graduates and senior dancers!

A Varnam truly brings together the depth of Bharatanatyam — **strong technique, rhythm, stamina and abhinaya**. Our dancers beautifully portrayed the relationship between the **devotee and Lord Shiva**, while maintaining precision and staying perfectly on beat throughout the demanding choreography.

This level of performance comes from **years of training, experience and deep commitment to classical Bharatanatyam**. So proud of our graduates and seniors for doing a splendid job! ❤️

It was especially meaningful to receive wholehearted appreciation from those who understand and value the **technical depth and classical intricacies of Bharatanatyam**.

We are thrilled to share that our Navashakthi dance performance at India Pavilion has been featured in the Winnipeg Free Press as part of the 55th Folklorama celebrations! We are especially proud that many of the published photos beautifully showcase our dancers and their dedication to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of Bharatanatyam.

BRT Academy of Dance & Music is offering a special summer program designed for children ages 5 and up who want to explore the foundations of Bharatanatyam in a fun, structured, and culturally rich environment.

Feeling incredibly proud of our BRT dancers after a wonderful evening at the Dance Manitoba Festival ✨

🏆 Manusri achieved Gold Honors in the Regular Category with an outstanding 97.5 marks — the highest recognition possible! This is also a very special milestone as she is the first dancer from BRT to participate in the Regular Category. Your hard work and dedication truly paid off! ❤️👏

🥇 Aaheli received Gold in the Novice Category with 88.5 marks and was also awarded the Junior Cultural Dance Scholarship for “Cosmic Dance of Shiva” 🌟 Congratulations on this amazing achievement!

🥈 Harini & Yathini received Silver in the Novice Category with 85.5 marks — wonderful teamwork and stage presence!

Grateful for two beautiful back-to-back performances with our Winnipeg community 🙏

Had the honor of performing at the Hindu Society of Manitoba’s fundraising dinner, supporting the renovation and maintenance of the Hindu Temple and Dr. Raj Pandey Hindu Centre.

Followed by Vadya Katha – Tales of Percussion, presented by Manitoba Hindu Seniors Inc, featuring the talented Mrudanga Dance Academy (Toronto) along with local artists.
