Head's up! Due to the MAAE being understaffed and operating with a very small Executive Committee (no MTS PD Chairs), there will be no MAAE conference at MTS PD DAY in 2025.

Here it is! Our fall conference! The Manitoba Association for Art Education MTS PD Day has something for everyone... featuring 35 art-making sessions and wellness sessions. 😁 PLEASE SHARE this opportunity with your teacher friends - especially Early Years and Elementary Teachers, and Middle & High School Visual Art Specialists! ❤

ART COMMUNITY HIVE-MIND! PLEASE HELP!

We are working on a fantastic resource for classroom teachers to help them integrate the works of Manitoba artists into their classrooms. I am wondering if you can help add to our list of artists who fit into one or more of these categories (below). They must be Canadian (preferably Manitoban) and must be female-identified, trans, or gender-expansive visual artists.

Artists who...

- use text in their work

- create work that is interactive / participatory (with the audience)

- create work focused on materiality (where the material being used is an essential part of the meaning)

- use their work as a form of activism

- use curation as a part of their artistic process

- create performance-based works

- work with time-based media (animation, sound, video, etc.)

- create large-scale installations

- work with the theme of destruction

- work with appropriation (using existing recognizable objects or images from history or from popular culture in their artwork)

- work with recontextualization (altering the meaning of an image/object by placing it by reframing it in a different context)

- work with juxtaposition (placing two dissimilar images / objects together to create an effect)

- work with hybridity (mixing unusual or unconventional materials or media)

- combine visual art with other subjects (sciences, languages, math, geography, mental health, etc.)

- create work that transforms a space, or create site-specific work

- are conceptual artists

We have a great list already started - but want to collect as many local examples / local resources as we can.

Feel free to post links / names / specific artworks that come to mind below! It might stir up someone else's thinking too!

On June 17th, 2021 at 7:30 PM,we will be having our Manitoba Association for Art Education Annual General Meeting. At this yearly meeting, we hold the Elections of Executive Officers.

All Executive positions are elected positions and you will have the chance to vote for your leadership team. In cases where there may be two or more individuals are interested in the same position, an election will be held electronically. Info on positions was sent out via email but contact us if you want more info!

If you are interested in taking on the responsibilities listed in the attached document, PLEASE CONTACT US by Tuesday, May 16th at 12 (noon) to let us know you'd like to run for a position! (Note: In some cases, there may not be anyone running against you.)

We would ideally like our leadership team to better represent our membership - so we're looking for elementary generalist teachers, LGBT2SQQIA* teachers, and BIPOC. Don't worry if you are new to this - there are experienced people on the committee that can guide you through a new role. We would love to have you on our team!

Mid-week next week, information about candidates interested in running for positions on the Executive will be made available. Feel free to contact Dawn Knight at [email protected], or through our website, with any questions.
