We always end the year with the Teen Horror Thriller camp! It's a chance to push our skills and discover what's possible in one week. But, this year I think we out did ourselves! This was by far the longest script, most locations, and most elaborate characters and sets we've ever created for camp.

This session will teach you how to find and submit for local and national on-camera acting roles, primarily in film and television. Drawing from 15 years of experience, we will break down the practical realities of pursuing a career in film acting.

What We’ll Cover:

Getting Started : How to build a realistic entry point into auditioning without falling for industry scams.

Agents & Logistics: Do you actually need an agent or professional headshots right away, and what are fair prices in the industry?

Audition Realities: What casting directors actually expect from modern self-tapes and live auditions.

Protecting Your Kid: How to support your child's passion while keeping them grounded and safe from the pressures of the business.

The presentation will be followed by an open Q&A, giving you a chance to ask specific questions about your child's goals and next steps.

This 2-Day workshop will provide actors with a unique opportunity to work with one of Winnipeg's biggest casting directors, Carmen Kotyk. Students will work on-camera both days to help them refine their process for both auditioning and on-set acting. Carmen Kotyk will join us on Day 2 to help participants gain an understanding of the current expectations for professional auditions. Our recorded work from will be reviewed and student will then get a chance to audition their scene for Carmen and receive feedback and notes.

Scene will be emailed one week prior to the workshop. This workshop is intended for students who have film acting experience and training.

At Expressions Film Studio, we are pioneering the way film acting is taught! We offer acting classes that build confidence, creativity, and on-camera skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Our training focuses deeply on practical on-camera elements, from the audition process to filming actual short films. Our students step in front of real studio lights, learn how to work with boom mics and monitors, and figure out how to deliver natural, honest performances by doing it for real!

Whether your child is a little hesitant and looking to build real-world confidence, or they’re a dedicated creative already making videos on their phone, we have a group for them this Fall:

🎦 Take 1 (Ages 7-18): This course introduces young actors to the essentials of on-camera performance, with a focus on truthful storytelling and character development.

🎦 Take 2 (Ages 9-19): Take 2 challenges young actors to deepen their craft by exploring emotional range, subtext, and the technical demands of a film set.

🎦 Advanced (Ages 11-18): This advanced course is for actors ready to push their skills to the next level. Students take on high-stakes scenes and complex characters, delivering emotionally rich, precise performances with confidence.

🎦 Company (Ages 10-18): Company class is designed for students looking to explore film acting both professionally and artistically. Students can expect to work on both practical and theoretical elements of making short films and auditioning.

🎦 On-Camera Acting (Ages 18+): This course is designed for adults looking to advance their skills both creatively and professionally.

Small class sizes so every single student gets proper instruction, more screen time, and direct feedback..

Is EFS back this Fall? Yes, we are.

After two months of talking to students, parents, agents, and casting directors, I’ve made the decision to bring back the studio. Reminding myself of how many people have been positively affected by EFS made me realize why I do this in the first place.

Fall Registration is live now at efstudio.ca

Classes start September 12.

Take 1 – Intro classes designed to teach film acting from the basics of getting in front of the camera. Students learn to memorize and navigate scripts.

Take 2 – Intermediate classes that help actors get comfortable in front of the camera and make strong performance choices.

Advanced Acting – Designed for students looking to pursue acting at a professional level. Focuses on auditions and scene work.

Company – Our most advanced class for actors who are truly dedicated to the craft of acting and filmmaking. Students work on building skills that go beyond standard choices to find the missing ingredients to their success.

Calling this an “Early Bird” special on July 26th is a stretch, let’s be honest, it’s super late. But here we are.

If you sign up for Fall classes between now and July 31st, your kid gets a free hoodie.

These hoodies will feature our new logo, which stays secret until late September. It’s part of a bigger rebrand we're rolling out midway through the Fall term, where the studio's new name will officially be released.

Expressions Film Studio is Closing After Summer

This is a tough announcement to make, but after much reflection, I have decided that this upcoming summer session will be the last chapter for Expressions Film Studio. At the end of August, we will officially close our doors.

This journey has been absolutely incredible and so many of the connections and friendships will undoubtedly last a life time. For the past 15 years, I have met countless kids that made a lasting impact on my life, and each one of them made me so incredibly hopeful for the future. The energy and creativity you all brought to the camera allowed us to make so many incredible little films and explore so many difficult topics. I hope they will remain a lasting memory for you like they have for me.

But! We still have Spring Session starting up and I of course did not have time to advertise it! So if you want to come train with me one last time, this is the final act of a dream that was Expressions Film Studio!

It really was an honour to serve :)

About the Workshop
This workshop is designed to help you understand what we’re doing when we audition for a casting director, teach you what it means to prepare an audition, and show you the common pitfalls young actors face going into the room.

The workshop provides a challenging environment to build the skills required to audition at a high level every time. The day concludes with a screening of a few all-time great EFS movies and a Q&A. (Parents are invited to the final portion.)
