Therapeutic Learning Centre is an educational intervention clinic that teaches children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental or learning disabilities, communication, socialization, and functional learning and living skills using the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Therapeutic Learning Centre specializes in Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI), and provides these services to the clientele in both centre- and home-based settings, but Therapeutic Learning Centre also offers a variety of programs and services for a wide range of clients.

Part 2
Ammar and Mike visited Windsors Finest Barbershop on Erie St. in Windsor. Ammar had the best time meeting the owner Percy and building that community connection.

During their visit, Ammar was able to watch the salon in action, ask questions, and have conversations about what steps he could take to begin exploring this interest further.

A huge thank you to Percy for welcoming Ammar, sharing your wisdom, and creating a space where he could feel inspired and excited about his future possibilities. 💙

Meet someone who continues to inspire us. 💙

What started as a journey as one of our clients has grown into something so much more. Today, our friend Ammar occasionally visits our centre, not as a learner, but as a volunteer, giving back to the same community that supported him along the way.

This is Part 1 of his story. A short interview with Mike, one of our Directors, introducing the incredible young man.

In Part 2, we’ll take you behind the scenes as Ammar and Mike explore one of his vocational interests: the salon/barber shop industry. You’ll see how meaningful community connections can create opportunities to build confidence and growth.

Children don’t learn best when we push harder, they learn best when they feel understood.

Meeting kids where they’re at means adjusting our expectations in the moment so we can support regulation, connection, and readiness to learn.

It’s not about lowering standards. It’s about creating the conditions where success becomes possible, that’s when growth happens. 💛

When children experience big emotions, they often need support to regulate. 💛

Here are some tools we use for our kids here at the centre. Regulation tools are not rewards or distractions, they are supports that can help children:
• Reduce stress and sensory overload
• Increase attention and engagement
• Develop self-regulation skills
• Navigate transitions and challenging moments with greater success

Regulation tools are not one-size-fits-all. What works for one child may not work for another, which is why we individualize strategies based on each child’s unique strengths, needs, and preferences.

The goal isn’t to “fix” emotions. It is to support children through them, helping them build the skills they need to understand and regulate their emotions over time.
