Maureen Harris serves as the Chair of the Board, bringing a wealth of experience as an International Business and Personal Growth Consultant, Director of Montessori Mozarts, and past Head of School for Lakeview Montessori. An expert in early childhood education, Maureen has dedicated her career to fostering environments where children thrive, rooted in her favourite quote from Maria Montessori, “The secret of good teaching is to regard the child’s intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination.”

Her journey into Montessori education was inspired by raising her own children in a home that valued independence, respect, and curiosity, principles that align perfectly with the Montessori philosophy. On a neighbourhood walk, she came across a Montessori school, fell in love with the method, enrolled her children, and eventually became a Montessori Casa teacher. She is particularly drawn to the concept of “respect” in Montessori, not only for the child but also for the adult, the environment, and the learning process.

Maureen’s work extends beyond traditional classroom settings. While conducting research with a Maasai community in Tanzania, she was able to communicate and bond with the teachers through their common knowledge of Montessori. She will always remember the joy she saw on the faces as they sat down together on the African soil, where she observed firsthand how Montessori transcends cultures. She finds immense fulfillment in shaping future generations and believes in the power of education to create lasting change.

We’re proud to be guided by leaders who live the Montessori philosophy every day.
