Happy Father's Day! 💙🩵
💙HAPPY FATHER'S DAY💙
The Holy Family (this is not an actual Orthodox icon) but shows Panagia, Jesus and Saint Joseph as a family. The Orthodox Church honors Saint Joseph, especially during the Nativity Season. To Orthodox Christians, Saint Joseph bears the title “the Betrothed,” as he was the one who was betrothed (engaged) to the Virgin Mary. He is often found in every icon of the Nativity, referred to numerous times throughout the Nativity cycle of services. He is also referred to in many of the hymns for the Feast of the Circumcision, and especially on the Great Feast of the Meeting, or Presentation, of Our Lord in the Temple. There is even an Akathist Hymn to Saint Joseph. Saint Joseph was chosen by God to be the human guardian of Christ as a child. He took what could have been a very complicated situation and fulfilled it with grace, which is why he was chosen for that role. As Orthodox Christians, we do not deny that he had been a carpenter, however his worldly occupation is completely secondary to his role as the human father of the child Jesus. This shows the importance of a father's role in a child's life. To all fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, step fathers enjoy the time with your families, today and always!
