🎵TIP: Engage in music practice with your child. Even if you do not know how to play an instrument!

🎹 Instead of sitting down to “oversee” or “supervise”their practice, sit down and become involved. Ask your child to teach you what they learned at their last lesson; ask them to show you where middle C is; ask them to teach you how to play one of the songs in their lesson book.

🎸 Not only does this exercise your child’s recollection of lesson materials, your child will feel excited and proud to show you something THEY know that you DON’T know! It will also make music practice feel like less of a “chore” at home.

🎤Keep the instrument in a common space in your home - like the living room or dining room - so you can listen to your child play from anywhere in the house. Chime in with comments like: “Wow - it sounds like you are learning so many new things. Can you show me one new thing you learned at your last lesson?”

🎶And if you have a toddler like me; make music part of your everyday life and routine. Stop what you’re doing to sing, clap beats and rhythms, observe high and low sounds, sing/observe loud and quiet, sing/clap fast and slow, etc. You will be surprised how much their little minds absorb! 😊✨

“You play the piano? Do you know how to play Clocks?” is a common question I’ve come to accept in my lifetime. 🎶✨
