Phases of Healing

Most people spend their lives somewhere in the first few phases or stages of healing. As a recovery coach, we would like our clients to become aware of the phases and work to progress through them. We are not doctors, but coaches (as we let our clients know) and we are here to encourage the client to find what steps they need to take and when.

Phase 1: Pain and Suffering

Emotionally and physically we know something is wrong. Fear is prominent during this phase.

Phase 2: Searching

This phase is characterized by online searches, doctors appointments with the hopes of identification or classification of the issue and a cure. Obsession and worry are the dominant emotions here.

Phase 3: Dealing

Coping mechanisms are used here to deal with the symptom and associated anxiety. Self medicating may be present.

Phase 4: Acceptance

Acceptance does not mean resignation. It means accepting that illness is present and deciding the best method to deal with it. This can be a very powerful stage. Keep in mind that not everyone chooses the same path at this point. No matter how people decide to deal with their illness at this point, almost everyone will progress to the next phase (which is not always the case in the first few phases).

Phase 5: Progress

Progress can occur in a variety of ways during this phase. Health is coming back to the client and detoxification is occurring (see detox article below).

This phase of healing is usually accompanied by a yearning for knowledge. Discovery of what processes and procedures work or did not work and finding out what is important in life for the client.

Worry is still present in this phase (did I do the right thing? will I get better?) but unlike the worry of the second phase there is often signs of wellness and increased health that help keep the anxiety down.

Phase 6: Roller coaster

This phase is best characterized by the saying "Two steps forward, one step back."

The body, when healing may often may produce a recurrence of the old symptoms that you thought had passed for good. These symptoms will usually only last for a few days and you should feel even better after (although not perfect). This is due to the cyclical nature of your body and its healing functions. Just keep eating healthy and contact your doctor with any concerns you may have.

Emotions can be as topsy-turvey as you feel your health is. Old emotional patterns filled with worry and stress can be hard to deal with. Often, the more days that pass and the healthier you feel, the less you will worry.

Phase 7: Mastering Balance

The client is implementing new habits and must be fully aware of what needs must be met in their life for them to function at their best.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may be present at this time. This is due to the fact that the client is used to waiting on edge for something that isn't good to occur. Now they need to learn to start enjoying life once again.

Phase 8: Looking Past Illness

Now the mind is getting used to getting better. Here the client naturally becomes less focused on the worries of self. They may beg increasing their knowledge in areas like health, spirituality and meditation (among others).

By this phase hopefully the client has learned new habits about their health that they will continue to do for the rest of their lives.

Phase 9: Educating Others (Passing It On)

This phase is characterized by the willingness and joy the client feels sharing what they have learned with others.

Make food fun for kids! Fruit is so visually attractive on its own, but it can be fun to create these pieces for parties or gatherings.

FACT: Humans need SODIUM not SALT. (Sodium is in salt, but salt is not good for humans.)
Get some SODIUM everyday from your pal CELERY. He misses you.

Is your dog experiencing seizures or a reoccurant infection of some sort? Try a whole food, grain free diet. (Worked on our Great Dane.)
- 2-3% of their ADULT weight in food a day.
- Everyweek serve a mixture of bones(NEVER COOKED BONES), livers, meat (cooked or raw), fish (canned or raw), eggs (raw with shells or cooked without). Potatoes if you must (carbs, grains, starches are not the best for them).

Especially if you are a parent you have a responsibility to maintain a healthy body.

This means having a plate sized dark green salad everyday. (Yes, even if you don't want to.)

This means you too, handsome;)

Best natural cleaner?? Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

How powerful is vinegar? Spay some undiluted vinegar on your weeds and watch them perish. And weeds are notoriously strong. But vinegar is stronger.

Use the half and half solution for counters, floors, bathrooms, mirrors, windows, the stovetop (sorry "the range"), anywhere a cleaner is needed.

We feed our dog raw meat quite often (I may be vegan but our dog did not ask to be domesticated) and I use the vinegar solution to clean up after him and we have never gotten ill from anything. That's some strong stuff.
