Don Elias Comiteco Blanco Reposado
Nice, smooth agave flavor. Although it is slightly over proof 42% there is no alcohol burn.

One of our top five "go-to" tequilas is Gran Coronel (Reposado). Unfortunately it has been delisted in Ontario. It's an amazing sipper w buttery sweet nose, a smooth mouth feel, mellow agave highlighted w vanilla, caramel, and a hint of green pepper. Aftertaste lingers fresh w a hint of pepper sweetness. A close second is one readily available now in Ontario...Codigo Reposado or Rose. Equally fantastic in a glass as the Coronel...Codigo has a heavier agave nose...not quite as sweet, but smooth as silk and fulll bodied on the palate. Floral w a slight mineral accents the oak nicely. Finishes w a light agave kiss. No matter what you pick....you will not be disappointed! !

Tequila selection in Ontario Canada is extremely limited. LCBO tends to stock big producers like Cuervo, Sauza, and Casa Maestri (aquamiel, Siempre, Sparkle Donkey, Hussongs the big flask, etc). But if you are looking for a nice well balanced, agave rich, smooth sipping Blanco or Reposado, try Espolon. For less than $40/bottle you really can't get a smoother more sippable tequila. Nose has a nice agave sweetness; mouth feel is velvet, w notes of agave, pepper, aromatics, slightly mineral. Aftertaste is clean, sweet, w a lingering agave...finishes as smooth as it starts. Friends, keep this one on the shelf! You won't regret it! Tequila

We often get asked...does the glass matter? Short answer, yes! There are a number of "stages" of getting the best experience while tasting a good tequila: the nose...catching the aromas that rise up before that liquid gold hits your tongue; initial palate...when you first taste; hind palate...when you swish around and savour, letting that sweet nectar sit quietly before swallowing; and aftertaste...after the swallow when you pick up more surprises than you ever expected! While much of the experience happens in your mouth, the glass is important to first and second phases...choosing a glass that allows the alcohol initial nose to dissipate while harbouring the first floral, vegetal, smokey, etc notes is critical. And you need a glass that will maintain temperature well...bc believe it or not, the taste will change if it warms up in your hand, or chills from an evening breeze. We prefer a stemmed champagne flute w no lip edge. Although we are kind of partial to these whiskey snifters for some of the more robust anejos we enjoy.
