It is part of the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB). Allan Timmins is the current principal. The school is located in the heart of Windsor, Ontario along Tecumseh Road and just east of Ouellete Avenue, one of the city's main throughfares. It is affectionately called 'The Castle' because of its prominent location and its distinctive turreted architecture. Opened in October 1929, Kennedy Collegiate was named after the Honourable William Costello Kennedy, a Windsor politician who had served as Minister of Roads and Canals.
