The Lunar New Year begins today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, marking the first new moon of the lunar calendar. Festivities span 16 days, culminating with the Lantern Festival on February 12, 2025.

This year, we welcome the Year of the Snake. In Chinese symbology, those born under this sign are known for their keen insight, wisdom, and extraordinary intelligence.

Lunar New Year traditions often include sharing festive meals with loved ones, honouring ancestors, fireworks, and vibrant parades. Many people visit their elders, while children receive lucky red envelopes filled with money, sweets, or new clothing as symbols of prosperity.

Lunar New Year is celebrated across many Asian cultures, including China, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, and the Philippines.

The GECDSB wishes all those celebrating a joyous and prosperous Lunar New Year! May the Year of the Snake bring wisdom, success, and positive transformations.
