The Cross-Border Institute is pleased to welcome Mr. Virgil Parker to the University of Windsor, Cross-Border Institute, for the duration of his The Fulbright Program Scholarship as Visiting Scholar.
While on scholarship, Virgil will work with CBI Director, Dr. Bill Anderson, on research to examine factors that constrain the participation of firms owned by minorities and women in Canada-US Trade.
“Virgil Parker has emerged at a young age as prominent voice for diverse and inclusive economic development. His visit will provide an opportunity for mutual learning as he researches an issue that is vital to CBI’s mission.” Dr. Bill Anderson
Virgil Parker Bio:
Virgil Parker is a U.S. Fulbright Student, community advocate and Howard University graduate with a degree in Journalism and minor in Afro-American studies. Mr. Parker plans to commit his life to helping others by promoting social equity and supporting underserved communities.
Mr. Parker has moderated and participated in recent conversations about a variety of topics such as 'Improving Police-Community Relations', 'Increasing Philanthropic Impact for Communities and Institutions of Color' and The United Nations' 8th Sustainable Development Goal: Decent Work and Economic Growth. His work has been included in publications such as Forbes and Diverse Issues In Higher Education. Virgil served as the Master of Ceremony for the 50th Anniversary Gala for the Howard University Cathy Hughes School of Communications. He credits his passion for servant leadership to being inspired by the legacy of places like Howard University and other Minority-Serving Institutions.
His Fulbright research has awarded him $20,000 to learn how to strengthen woman-owned and minority-owned companies in the U.S., as they trade with Canada. Additionally, he intends to encourage corporate social responsibility in both nations.

UWindsor Researchers to Study Traffic Patterns at Ambassador Bridge

This latest project will use machine learning and artificial intelligence to measure and predict traffic patterns, improving the efficiency of border crossings. Data from cameras and sensors near the bridge will be transferred wirelessly in real time to servers at the institute for analysis by a team of researchers from a variety of disciplines.
