Maame Adwoa Brantuo is a PhD student in the Clinical Psychology track at the University of Windsor, with a specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology. Her dissertation research focuses on examining how individuals with limited proficiency in English report their psychiatric symptoms. Maame hopes to continue contributing to the relatively sparse literature on cross-cultural neuropsychology, particularly as it relates to the Canadian context. Outside of her academic endeavours, she loves cooking, baking, animation, musical theatre, and cats.

Check out this recent interview done by Marissa Rakus (Applied Social) from The HEAL Lab on the global news (Saskatchewan). She was interviewed about the medical gaslighting study from the HEAL Lab, and about MG in general.

“Researcher Marissa Rakus says almost every woman you meet has at least one story of medical gaslighting.“The medical system was built by men for men. Women weren’t even included in medical clinical trials until (the) 1990s, which is really not that long ago.”

Rakus said that a lot of these issues boil down to lack of research and teaching, adding that this is a systemic issue, not an issue with individual doctors.”

Tune in to hear Dr. Dana Ménard discuss her latest book, Lessons from an Early Career Therapist: Managing mistakes, missteps, and other minor disasters Dr. Dana Ménard is an assistant professor of clinical psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Windsor. She obtained her PhD from the University of Ottawa in 2013 after completing her pre-doctoral internship and the London Health Sciences Centre. Her PhD dissertation was published as a book, Magnificent s*x: Lessons from extraordinary lovers, which won the 2021 consumer choice book award for the Society for S*x Therapy and Research and has been profiled in the New York Times, Psychology Today, and The Guardian. Her latest book, published October 2024 from Routledge, is entitled Lessons from an early career therapist: Managing mistakes, missteps, and other minor disasters. Her current research interests include s*xual wellbeing and resilience, with a special focus on groups that have been marginalized or minoritized. Her research work has been funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Outside of research, she enjoys running, yoga, reading, and baking.

They came up with fun, exciting & creative activities related to the course content, using artistic, and didactic approaches, while building a sense of community in the classroom! Congratulations to Dr. Charlene Senn (Applied social) and Sara Crann (Adjunct professor of psychology) on securing 2.5 million dollars of funding for their project to prevent s*xual violence!

“We know from our previous research that Flip the Script works. Young women in university who participate in the program are significantly less likely to experience s*xual assault,” said Dr. Senn. “This funding allows us to expand the program’s reach to adolescent girls in the community and gives us the opportunity to work with community organizations to ensure the program can be delivered effectively to even more young women across the country in the future.”
